Jefferson County Sheriff

Aching: A Wintersville woman told deputies her live-in boyfriend assaulted her during an argument, Sunday. The man told them she'd called him home from the bar because she had a toothache, but when he got home she "started complaining to him about being at the bar and (they) began arguing." He said it never got physical and was simply "a verbal domestic." She said she'd asked him to help her with her tooothache pain, but he was argumentative when he got home and ended up pushing her and hitting the side of her face, which made her tooth ache more. She told deputies she didn't want to file charges but wanted him gone for the night.

Tense times: A Wintersville man said he and his brother were arguing and his brother pointed a gun at him, Sunday. He said the trouble began when his brother arrived for a wake and found out his ex-girlfriend was present. He said his brother threatened to assault her if she didn't leave, but they told his brother he needed to keep the peace for the sake of elder family members. He said the woman was a long-time friend of the deceased individual and was there to help prepare dinner for the family. The brother stormed into the home and yelled at the woman she needed to leave. The Wintersville man said children who were present ran to the back of the house, and when he tried to intervene, his brother pushed a septuagenarian out of the way and grabbed him by the neck, then ran to his truck and pulled a gun out from under his seat and pointed it at him, and made a threat. The Wintersville man and his brother's ex told deputies they want to pursue charges.

Booked: John Allen Murad, 64, 90 Smithfield St., Dillonvale, was charged with violating a protection order after a neighbor told deputies he swerved his vehicle when he saw her daughter despite a protection order barring him from contact with any member of her family, Saturday. She alleged the week before he called her mother using a derogatory term and told deputies she had video of that exchange. Her daughter said she was on the street and saw him leaving his residence, driving toward her and claimed he steered toward her as if he was going to strike her car. The family decided to pursue charges.

Crazy talk: A Texas man told deputies his girlfriend's soon-to-be ex-husband had flattened two of his tires, Saturday. He said they have text messages in which the ex, a Wheeling resident, indicated he was responsible for damaging the tires. On Sunday, he told deputies he got another threatening message. Both want to pursue charges.

Rutting kids: A Richmond woman complained that her neighbor's children are riding ATVs on her property, leaving ruts. She said they'd told the neighbors weeks ago it was a problem and asked them not to let the kids do it, but it was still happening.

Pipe issues: A caller was concerned that a man at a Mount Pleasant residence was under the influence of an illicit substance, Sunday. Deputies said the man was sitting, staring at a wall when they arrived and was unsteady on his feet, had inappropriate responses during conversation, was having hallucinations and had dilated pupils that didn't react to bright light. The caller said he and another individual who was present had located what appeared to be a crude smoking pipe fashioned from an air hose quick connect fitting and steel wool shoved into one end, that deputies said appeared to have been used.

For the best: A man was "being a general annoyance" at the Dillonvale Dollar General because employees told him he couldn't return a Visa gift card he'd purchased, Saturday. Employees wanted him removed, and the man insisted he needed to talk to a deputy in person. By the time they arrived he'd left.

Steubenville Police

Report: Two people who caused a disturbance in the 1000 block of Lincoln Avenue told police it was strictly verbal, Sunday. Police said the woman's face had some swelling, but she insisted it was "from a non-related incident and did not want to elaborate any further," police said.

Hard knocks: Police had to go back to the 1600 block of Oregon Avenue after a resident told them someone had blocked his driveway again, Sunday. Police endedup ticketing the vehicle and towing it.

Perplexing: Jefferson County sheriff's dispatcher requested a welfare check on an individual who called them and was threatening to harm himself, Monday. Police located the man, who said he had no desire to hurt himself. He told police he he believes his electronic devices are being hacked by his neighbors. When they asked him about his comments to the dispatcher, he told them he thinks other people can read his mind "and made those comments to get the other people to stop talking," police said.
