Wellsburg business offering food at new location
WELLSBURG — Parr’s Treasures has moved to a new location, 1438 Commerce St., and added a variety of hot food selections to the many unique gift items offered by the business.
Chelsi Parr, the business’ owner, said while operating from its former Charles Street location, she found there was a demand for fresh-made lunch items, available for take out.
Parr added the new state Route 2 location, which some may remember as the site of a Christian bookstore years ago, has provided her additional space to prepare the food which she said “is all made from scratch.”
“Coming here, you get something like you’d get from your grandma’s kitchen. And, I use a lot of my grandma’s recipes,” she said.
Each day Parr serves up a soup of the day, from chili to beef stew, and another hot entree, often a sandwich, as well as cinnamon rolls or other baked treats.
They are posted the week prior on Parr’s Treasures’ Facebook page, but potential customers also can call (304) 312-9184 to learn what’s on her stove for that day.
“We’re just testing the waters to see what sells best. Eventually we’ll have a regular menu,” she said.
Parr said creamed turkey on biscuits and pepperoni rolls are among her top sellers.
Parr said walk-ins are welcome and there is some seating for those seeking a break for coffee, “But some people do call ahead to make sure it’s ready when they come and that we’re not sold out.”
She said she likes to support other local businesses when she can, noting she’s used produce from Family Roots Farm of Wellsburg and maintains a case of Kirke’s Ice Cream, a St. Clairsville-based business.
Before Christmas, Parr also prepared a large number of cookies and other treats, and she’s looking forward to preparing candy bouquets for Valentine’s Day and home-made chocolates for Easter.
An all-around entrepreneur with a photography business as well, Parr prepares candy-filled Easter eggs for special events.
“We’ve been doing that for four or five years now,” she said, adding she has filled anywhere from 35 to hundreds of eggs for such occasions.
“Someone once ordered 500. That was fun,” said Parr, who estimates she has filled a total of 2,000 to 5,000 eggs in a year.
Parr brought to the new location many of the lines of merchandise she sold on Charles Street, from locally made jewelry and seasonal and year-round decorations to T-shirts and tumblers that can be personalized with names, photos and assorted designs.
She said vital in helping her make the move were her boyfriend, Eric Woodburn; father and stepmother, Gary and Jackie Parr; and teen nephew, Austin Parr.
Parr also expressed thanks to the Wellsburg Chamber of Commerce and the community as a whole for supporting the business.
