Steubenville Police

Cause and effect: A man stopped an officer patrolling North Street to report he was being followed by a woman with a knife who was threatening him, Saturday. He told police he’d been at the woman’s home and when he was leaving, she threatened him with the knife. Police said she admitted she had a knife and said they’d been arguing “and it got out of hand.” He didn’t want to pursue charges so police told them to stay away from each other.

Fired up: A resident reported a fire in the woods along Woodland Avenue, Saturday. A resident already on scene reported the fire was set by juveniles, police said. He said a group of kids knocked on his door and told him was “a small brush fire” in the woods, so he got on his four-wheeler and drove to it and tried to keep it from spreading. Steubenville and Wintersville firefighters extinguished the blaze, police said.

Pokefan: Wal-Mart employees told police a man was trying to make a hasty exit from the parking lot after fleeing with merchandise he hadn’t paid for, Saturday. Police said Scott T. McClure, 42, Aliquippa, Pa., was charged with petit theft, and was also booked on three active warrants for petit theft out of municipal court. Police said McClure told them he’d picked up a couple of cards and had passed the checkouts and was walking to the door “when someone came after him and told him to stop.” Employees allege McClure had several packages of Pokemon cards in a cart, and police said they found one pack on him when he was taken into custody. Walmart employees said the merchandise totaled $235, police said.

Scooted away: A driver told police a juvenile on a motorized scooter darted in front of him in the parking lot near Subway in the Hollywood Plaza, Friday. He said he hit the scooter and the youth fell to the ground then “jumped right back up” and said he was OK. The youth jumped back on his scooter and left, he said. Police searched the area for the juvenile but couldn’t find him.

Helping hands: A Teresa Drive resident said a man came to her residence to help someone move out, and after they were gone discovered a pawn shop receipt for a gaming console and goggles, Friday. Coincidentally, she said those items were missing from her residence.

Injured: Police said the driver of a vehicle involved in a one-car accident downtown was unresponsive, Friday. The car had hit a pole, police said. Steubenville firefighters/EMS administered Narcan, they said. Police said they saw a metal pipe with white residue on the inside, as well as a cigarette pack with a white, rock-like substance inside. She was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Dogged: A Sherman Avenue resident said a neighbor’s dogs were running on her property, Friday. Police said the neighbor said she would make sure her animals stay home.

Frequent shopper: Wal-Mart employees gave police documentation showing a woman they’ve been able to identify shoplifting six times in less than a month, Friday. Just over $250 in merchandise was taken, police said.

Wrong place: A city resident told police someone skimmed $438 from her mother’s bank account, Friday. When she said her mother lives in Michigan, police told her she’d have to file the report there.

Booked: Devon W. Roleson, 26, no fixed address, Steubenville, warrant for domestic violence out of Wintersville County Court, Friday; William Holt, 53, 461 S. Fifth St., Steubenville, warrant, Saturday; Kevin J. Sivert, 48, 400 3rd St., Stratton, bench warrant, Saturday. Sivert also was cited for DUS.S

Why wait: A caller reported seeing a man wearing black clothing and a mask and carrying two machetes, Friday. Police couldn’t find anyone matching the description, and the caller told police about 15 minutes was passed before she called police.

Damaged: A city resident said he parked a vehicle near the intersection of Dock and 7th Streets Friday, and when he returned to it the following morning, he found deep scratches running the length of the passenger side.
