Jefferson County Sheriff

Alcohol talking: Three people drinking heavily at a Mingo Junction residence got in a disagreement, Tuesday. The caller said the arguing began when the other two men “began to joke about serious matters.” He said he grabbed his backpack and was going to leave before things got physical, but one of his companions started punching him and he dropped it. He said his assailant told him to leave, and when he refused to go until he got his backpack, which contained his ID cards and wallet, he said his assailant pulled a gun out, cocked it and pointed it at him. Deputies said the man’s face was swollen and his nose and mouth were bleeding. His assailant admitted to the fight but denied getting a gun out.

Steubenville Police

Stay away: A Ridge Avenue man was taken into custody after he allegedly grabbed a female by the neck and screamed profanities at her, Monday. Police said Myron M. Jones, 33, 1502 Ridge Ave., was booked into the county jail on a domestic violence charge. The woman said when she told Jones her children needed to get ready for bed “he became irate and stated he would not leave” and told her to call police “because she would need them.” She told police he “tried to head-butt her,” but ended up grabbing her by the neck” and when she broke free, she barricaded herself and her children into an upstairs bedroom until he left.

Root of all evil: Two men ended up in a fight in the 200 block of Shirley Circle because the girlfriend of one of them didn’t like the idea they’d been day-drinking, Monday. The caller said his friend’s girlfriend was upset when she saw them out dring earlier in the day, and when she got off work confronted her boyfriend for drinking. He said the couple then started arguing with him in the roadway and eventually it got physical. Police said the caller smelled of alcohol and had difficulty explaining what had happened or even who hit him, but his hand was bleeding and his back was red.

Time to go: A Ridge Avenue resident said her live-in boyfriend shoved her and she fell, hitting her head on a side table, Wednesday. She said she’s pregnant.

Can’t do that: A Sunset Boulevard resident was told he has to stop pounding on shared wells and screaming racial slurs and threats at his neighbors, Wednesday. Police said he admitted “he did do these things” two weeks ago, but not since. A protection order was served on him, and police warned him he’d end up in jail if he did anything else.

Uncomfortable: A man was standing on a porch in the 1600 block of Market Street and yelling, Monday. He told police he was “yelling about being cold.” He said he’d been there a few days.

Booked: Jacqueline Y. Williams, 60, 314 Highland Ave., Steubenville, and Michael P. Clark, 44, 1405 Oregon Ave., Steubenville, petit theft, Monday. Williams allegedly filled her purse with food items and left Kroger without paying, deputies said. Clark allegedly took two 12-packs of beer and fled the store, they added.

Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to the owners/occupants of properties at 1225 Pennsylvania Ave., trash bags and household junk piled behind the residence; 1510 Maryland Ave., card oard boxes and household junk piled in front of residence and junk on front porch.

Targeted: A South Fifth Street resident said someone cut her Dish cable line, Monday. It’s not the first time it’s happened, police said.

Booked: Wynnonah L. Lowther, 31, 715 Market St., Apt. F, bench warrant out of Toronto county court, Monday. Police said they also charged her with possession of a controlled substance after allegedly finding a Xanax pill concealed in a bag tucked in her sock.

Too late: Callers reported a suspicious vehicle and juveniles running through yards in the 200 block of Bryden Road, Sunday. Police couldn’t find the car but they did find a juvenile, who told them he’d been playing with his friends but left him once they spotted the cruiser. He said they’d been playing some type of tag game. Police pointed out he was breaking curfew and took him to his residence.

Reported: A caller reported hearing shots fired in the vicinity of Tweed Avenue, Saturday. Police checked the area and found no sign of a disturbance.

Cited: Crystal L. Miller, 31, 2614 Commercial Ave., Mingo Junction, failure to yield; Stanley R. Long Jr., 56, 1529 Ridge Ave., Steubenville, no operator’s license.

Cited: Stanley R. Long Jr., 56, 1529 Ridge Ave., Steubenville, no operator’s license. Police had stopped Long’s vehicle because they couldn’t read the license plate because of an accumulation of dirt, and in the process learned Long’s license was not valid.
