Steubenville Police
Last word: A man was spotted trying to enter a residence in the 100 block of McDowell Avenue, Sunday. Officers talked to the man, who said he’d had a fight with his girlfriend and she locked him out. He said she was sleeping inside, but she didn’t come to the door. He said he’d wait for her to wake up, but about two hours later police were called back to the residence because he was causing a disturbance, pounding on the front door and breaking a window with a brick. Erick M. Schneider II, 29, Steubenville, was charged with domestic violence and criminal mischief, police said. Schneider told them the window accidentally broke when he tried to wake his girlfriend up. The owner of the property arrived on scene and, after seeing the damage, told police she wants to pursue charges.
Seeing things: A woman at a downtown business didn’t like the way a female employee looked at her, Sunday. The two of them argued until officers arrived. The employee said the woman accused her of looking at her “in some type of way” and it started an argument. She wanted the woman to leave but she refused, but police told her she needed to leave and not return.
Suspicious minds: A Pennsylvania Avenue resident was upset because she thought a neighbor had a camera pointed in her bedroom window, Sunday. Police questioned the neighbor about the white, plastic object in their window and confirmed It wasn’t a camera.
Parting gesture: A resident in the 400 block of South Fourth Street said her child’s father put a large hole in her bedroom door before fleeing, Sunday. She said he was on the way back to Maryland.
Thieves: Two women with face coverings were spotted leaving an Arlington Avenue residence, Sunday. She said a rusted, black .40 caliber handgun and a Canon T3i digital camera were missing.
Wily kids: Dresden Avenue residents said kids were riding dirt bikes in the roadway, Sunday. Police located a male holding a yellow dirt bike in the 400 block and advised him to keep it off the street.
Reported: Someone reported hearing shots fired in the 1300 block of Oregon, Sunday. Police checked the area but found no sign that any guns had been fired.
Booked: Daniel J.T. Chappell, 29, 445 Woodland Ave., Apt. 1, Steubenville, failure to appear, Sunday. Chappell was also cited for driving under suspension.
Cited: Ian P. Whittington, 38, 312 Vernon Ave., Steubenville, speeding and no operator’s license; Etta B. Kirkbride, San Carlos Drive, Weirton, failure to yield left turn; Fashyon Mae Carter, 25, 466 S. Sixth St., Steubenville, driving under suspension and expired plates. An officer who was aware Carter’s license was suspended reported he stopped her after seeing her at the wheel of a car with expired plates;Kimberly S. Canterbury, 64, 2682 county Road 6, Dillonvale, red light violation following a two-car collision at Sunset Boulevard and Brady Circle West; Renae E. Waltz, 55, 431 Henry Ave., Steubenville, expired/unlawful plates; Devin Sarvis, 29, Noakesville, Va., driving under suspension; Aldon Powell, 64, 650 South Street, Steubenville, failure to control and operating a vehicle intoxicated.
No talking: A Dresden Avenue resident told police three people accused him of stealing their Playstation, and when he went outside to talk to them, they assaulted him, Thursday.
Vandalism: An Arden Avenue resident told police juveniles were throwing rocks at his house, Thursday. Police said they located several small rocks on his porch but did not see any damage.
Stolen: A vehicle parked in the 400 block of South Fifth Street was reported stolen, Thursday. The owner said she’d left an extra set of keys in the car.
No scavenging: A woman was rooting through trash cans in the 1200 block of Oregon Avenue, Thursday. She was advised dumpster diving is prohibited in Steubenville.
Booked: Margo L. Thornton, 59, 1408 Euclid Ave., Steubenville, failure to appear, Thursday.
Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to owners/occupants of properties at 1542 Oregon Ave., old swimming pool filled with litter and junk, kitchen appliances and other household discards in the back yard; 1312 Arlington Ave., piles of junk and scrap; 1649 Ridge Ave., household garbage scattered in back yard and by trash can; and 458 S. Fourth St., 427 Washington St, 328 S. Fifth St., 333 S. Fourth St., high weeds/grass. A notice also was mailed to the corporate office of Dollar Tree, 138 N. Fifth St., high weeds/grass.
Stolen: A Henry Avenue resident reported her car stolen from her residence overnight, Thursday. It was located in Weirton not long after she reported the theft.
Better life: Police assisted the Jefferson County Humane Society with removal of animals from a property in the 1600 block of Ridge Avenue, Thursday.

Round 2: An Adena woman said her daughter’s ex-boyfriend tried to kick in her front door, Saturday. She said there’d been a domestic violence incident the night before involving him, and he came to her house to speak with her daughter that morning and when she wouldn’t let him in, tried to force his way through the door. He blamed the damage on her for trying to close it on him, but deputies noted the door frame was busted inward. Trevor Ronald William Kimmel, 27, 89 Hanna Ave., Adena, was charged with burglary and domestic violence, deputies said.
Light sleeper: A Bloomingdale man told deputies he was attacked by his wife, April 2. He said he hasn’t been happy in their relationship and was thinking about ending the marriage, and when he told her, she didn’t take the news well and had become “increasingly agitated and, recently, violent.” He said she routinely attacks him after nights out, screaming at him and hitting him on the head. He said she’s kicked the door in and several weeks ago hit him with an object in her hand that cut him and another time put him in a choke hold.
Rasti rules: K-9 Rasti located 4 grams of suspected methamphetamine, two meth pipes and a hypodermic needle during a free air sniff requested by Ohio State Highway Patrol, Saturday. The patrol charged Kirk R. Singleton, 505 Scott Featner Road, Mingo Junction, with possession of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia, deputies said.
Unsubstantiated: A woman on county Road 28 reported a man came to her house and threatened to shoot her and her son because he and the son had been arguing at Circle K in Steubenville, Friday. Deputies asked her to describe the man who had threatened her but she didn’t know what he looked like but she knew “he was the one that pulled in and threatened her,” they said. She described a blue truck and said he lives in a double wide, but they couldn’t locate a truck or home matching her description in the area where she said he resides.
