Altercation reported: A woman in the 1500 block of Oregon Avenue told police a male friend came to give her a ride to see her daughter but her live-in sent the driver away, Saturday. She said they started arguing and he slammed her to the ground, holding her by the throat and when she tried to defend herself, he punched her in the head about five times. She said he took her cell phone and tried to make her stay in the bedroom. Her live-in told police they started arguing after she sent her ride away and said he pushed her and the argument turned physical. He said she hit him but "he shouldn't have done what he did." The two of them had been seeing each other for about three years but had only moved in together a month ago, the woman said. She didn't want to pursue charges, but police said she had a red bump on her forehead that was bleeding and was visibly upset so they filed charges on her behalf. Dennis M. Burkett, 53, 1523 Oregon Ave., Steubenville was charged with domestic violence. He also was charged with two counts of possession of drugs and misdemeanor possession of drugs after police reported finding 18 small bags of methamphetamine, 15 white bar pills labeled Xanax and six buprenorphine, police said.

Pulling hair: A fight was reported at Seventh and Franklin streets and the caller said someone was being dragged out of a car near the railroad tracks, Saturday. Police said there was a large crowd standing in the roadway, and "large amounts of hair in the roadway as if a physical altercation had taken place." A woman sitting on the sidewalk told them she'd been pepper sprayed but refused to tell them anything else. A woman in a white SUV parked on the opposite side of the road had blood on her face and injuries to her face, but neither she nor another woman in the vehicle would talk to police.

Unhappy ex: A Walden Avenue resident said her ex snuck into her house while she was sleeping and assaulted her, holding her down by her face, tossing her around the bed and punching her several times in the kidneys, Friday. She said he insisted she give him $500 for a TV he'd gifted her with several months before they broke up in March, threatening to "kill you and burn your house down," then demanded she go to the ATM with him to get the money and when she refused, took her phone and left, throwing it away once he was outside. She told police he'd sent her inappropriate text messages earlier in the day that she ignored, and when she came home she found a couple of gift bags with items she'd gifted him at Christmas, so she knew he'd been in the house. She told police she sent him a sternly worded text message and not long after she woke up to find herself being attacked. Police said the woman had marks on her neck, shoulders and collar bone, some bruising and a scratch on her cheek and another below her eye.

Bumpy ride: A woman was driving in the 1500 block of Sunset Boulevard with a flat tire, Saturday. The driver told police someone slashed two of her tires and she was trying to get them filled up. She said she was waiting for roadside assistance but she was tired of waiting. Police advised her to park the vehicle until it was drivable.

Noticed: A man driving a red truck with Pennsylvania plates was seen dumping a dog in the 1200 block of Tweed Avenue, Saturday. Neither she nor her neighbors recognized the dog which police said had several health issues, including rotten teeth, bald patches and an eye injury.

Down on his luck: A man sleeping in his car at Beatty Park told police his girlfriend had kicked him out of her house and he "was now homeless," Saturday.

Spitting mad: A Crabbe Boulevard woman told police she and her boyfriend were arguing so she left, and when she returned it started up again, Thursday. She said he spit on her and then "raised a toy guitar at her" before fleeing, but she didn't want to pursue charges.
