The man admitted he and his girlfriend had shoved each other and said he had tossed a few items, including his TV, off the media stand. His girlfriend was cruing and said she just wated to go to sleep, but deputies said she displayed signed of intoxication and advised her she'd have to return to her own home. They said she was reluctant, but eventually agreed and a deputy drove her to Freedom Way where a Weirton police officer met them and took her to her home.
Vengeful ex: A Carrollton man in the midst of a contentious divorce told deputies his estranged wife tried to run him off County Road 49, Bergholz, Friday. He said he bumped into her in the Dollar General in Amsterdam, but the chance meeting was uneventful until he'd left the parking lot. He said his ex "flew up behind him and attempted to run him off the road."
Just being honest: An anonymous caller told deputies a Bloomingdale man had assaulted his wife during an argument, Saturday. The man admitted they'd argued and that "a small physical interaction" took place when the female tried to grab her cell phone, which he was holding. He said it ended when he threw the phone on the ground, destroying the screen. The woman told deputies "the argument was her fault because she had been intoxicated at the time." She said they started arguing and when the male was trying to leave she "attempted to stand in front of his vehicle." She denied anything physical taking place, though he had a black eye "in the advanced stages of healing" and she had a small laceration on the bridge of her nose that was healing over and some darkening under one of her eyes that she said happened when she hit the windowsill when she tried to get out of a recliner while she was drunk. Neither of them wanted to file a written statement and both denied injury.

Persistent thief: A Rayland couple told deputies they're dealing with a persistent identity thief, Friday. They said they recently discovered the thief had transferred $75,000 out of his home equity loan account into his bank account into his savings, then tried to withdraw it but the bank blocked the move. Since then, they were notified that Capital One Banking had recovered his user name and the new card would be sent to the unknown user in Atlanta, so they've been talking to Capital One daily to block the account. Since May 1 they said there have been "numerous attempts to send a new card and an application for a new account" using the man's identity, and that the scammers blocked calls to their Xfinity account so they wouldn't get confirmation calls from Capital One. The thieves also added Netflix and DVR charges to their account. They were able to make outgoing calls but discovered that they were being redirected to a Verizon account so they made contact with the holder of that number, an unknown male in California. They said they've changed their phone numbers and purchased new phones and signed up for LifeLock.
