Troubled: A juvenile released from jail about two months ago on gun charges is reportedly in trouble again after he and an unknown companion allegedly stole two electric bikes from a State Street resident and he was caught with two loaded guns in his backpack, Sunday. The homeowner showed police video of the two men creeping onto her porch and grabbing the bikes, which she valued at around $800. Police spotted the pair riding bikes on Lawson Avenue and one of them tried to pedal into a parking lot in the 200 block of Lawson Avenue and make a run for it but the officer was able to catch up to him. Police allege the youth had two Glock 43Xs, one with an extended magazine and weapon light, in his backpack.
Jeepers, creeper: A resident in the 1400 block of State Street said a man was looking into her windows, Saturday. She told police she recognized the man, who is a friend of her husband who they'd asked not to come back to the residence because of a theft that had previously occurred. She said she recognized the male from her video doorbell footage.
Active imagination: A man in the 1400 block of Oregon Avenue told police he thought three people were circling the block and trying to harm him, Saturday. Police said the man appeared to be "highly intoxicated," but they told him they'd make extra passes.
Down and out: A man was lying in the grass on the north side of Washington Street hill, Saturday. Police said the man had been dealing with mental and drug issues in recent days and since he didn't appear to be a danger to himself or others, they let him walk back to the homeless shelter where he'd been residing. Ninety minutes later police encountered him again, and report he was upset because he wasn't allowed back in the shelter. Police told the staff he'd been hospitalized and only released earlier in the day, so he was allowed back in.
Taken away: A Brady Avenue resident told police someone stole three bicycles off her porch, Saturday. She said a 27 inch black and white Schwinn a black and red 18-inch Huffy and a Golden Rose "old style bike" were taken overnight. She valued the bikes at $750.
Theft: A Lovers Lane resident said someone skimmed several hundred dollars from his account, Saturday. He said 23 withdrawals were made from his CashApp.
Helped himself: A downtown businessman told police someone pried his back door open, Saturday. He said a tenant gave a man he'd been letting do odd jobs in the past few weeks a ride to a Wilkins Street location and allowed him to put a TV in his trunk. Coincidentally, a 50-inch flat screen TV and some speakers were missing from the business.
Threw it away: A city resident told police he wanted to get his keys off his wife, but she said she threw his keys and other belongings out, Saturday. His wife showed police a protection order issued by a county court judge, so he was advised to let the court handle it.
Lock out: A man in the 400 block of South Fifth Street told police his girlfriend locked him out and wouldn't let him in, Saturday. His girlfriend said they've "been having problems with one another" and since his name wasn't on the lease she wanted him gone. Police told her since he'd been living with her he'd established residency so she couldn't keep him out unless she has him evicted, and advised them to stay away from each other.
Bumpy ride: A motorist had car problems after striking a pothole on Fort Steuben Drive near Mall Drive, Saturday. The driver told police he was northbound on Fort Steuben Drive when he hit the pothole and his tire went flat. Police said the flat tire "appeared to be caused by the edge of something tearing into it."
Booted: Someone kicked the front door of a home in the 900 block of Sherman Avenue, causing the glass to fall out, Saturday. Kids in the neighborhood told police a man wearing a grey hoodie and blue shorts was responsible for the damage, but they couldn't find anyone matching that description.
Robbed: An Oregon Avenue homeowner said he came home to find his door kicked in and a TV missing,
Cited: Corey P. Fellows, 34, 2727 LaFayette Blvd., Steubenville, and Nicholas T. Provenzano, 23, 2238 Charles St., Wellsburg, both for speeding; Karen E. Wright, 34, 1410 Oak Grove Ave., Steubenville, driving under suspension.
Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to owners/occupants of a property at 525-527 Ross St., bags of garbage beside trash can, sofa in rear of property; 508 Ross St., mattress and cardboard boxes on side of house; 509 Ross St., sofa on sidewalk.
Booked: Jonathan C. Gorman, 18, 125 Sabina Drive, Wintersville, petit theft, Friday. Walmart employees allege Gorman neglected to scan two shirts when he was checking out, stuffing them under bags of items he paid for. Once he left the checkout, they said he ducked into the sandwich shop and pulled the tags off the shirt. He said he'd stolen one shirt but said he "intentionally did not scan because he'd have been left with no money," police noted.
