Much ado: A Terrace Avenue resident told police a dog got away from a young child holding it by the collar and killed her cat, Monday. She said when she yelled the dog dropped the cat and the cat ran off, so she didn't know with certainty that it was dead, but claimed the dog was covered in blood. The owner of the dog said her son accidently let the dog out and didn't tell her there'd been a problem with a cat. Police said there was no blood and no cat, so they advised her the dog needs to be on a leash at all times and she said she'd keep the doors shut. The cat's owner eventually reported her pet "returned home and was not injured."
Topped off: A woman who was ordered to leave a Seventh Street business earlier in the day was taken to the hospital after she returned and caused a disturbance, Monday. Employees said the woman initially refused to leave the store, and when she finally did leave their building stood in the parking lot "acting erratically," Monday. Police said she had no top or shoes on and was "unable to stand or carry on a conversation." She was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Grab 'n go: Detectives said two people walked out of Wal-Mart a week ago without paying for $114 in merchandise they took with them, Monday. They said the two walked into the automotive section and the male grabbed a new battery and left a used one he'd carried into the store, then they went to the self-checkout with it and several food-related items. Police said neither of them tried to scan the battery, and the female tried to use an EBT card to purchase the food items but it was declined so they moved to another terminal where the male purchased an alcoholic beverage. Neither of them told the attendant about the battery or the food items that were declined. Both have been identified, police said.
Short-lived: A woman in the 100 block of North Fourth Street wanted a male who'd been living with her removed because they'd been arguing, Monday. The male said he'd been living at the City Rescue Mission for about a month before moving in with her a couple days of earlier. He already had his items packed and ready to go, police said.
