Cited: Multiple callers complained of someone letting off fireworks in the Broadway Boulevard area, and when the officer got out of his patrol car he saw "a firework went off nearly taking out multiple power lines and utility poles," Monday. He said another firework "exploded on the ground, nearly striking multiple vehicles" including the officer's. As he approached the group, he said Lavocni Brown, 40, 500 Union Ave., Steubenville, told him a man "lit the fireworks and ... took off running" and claimed no one still at the scene was involved but the officer pointed out he saw the group lighting them and no one had run away. Brown was cited for discharge of fireworks, police said.
Love struck: A Market Street resident said a man she bought a car from keeps texting her, Monday. She said she paid the man $400 for the car and he gave her a duplicate title but is refusing to give her the original document. She said she has tried to get the original from him, but he won't give it up and thinks he wants "some type of romantic relationship" before he'll give it to her. She said she's already blocked his number and is going to go to Legal Aid to see if they can help.
Cited: Callers reported seeing someone doing donuts in a gravel lot behind a school in the 600 block of Lovers Lane, Monday. Officers said they turned on their overhead light and siren "due to the heavy amount of dust in the air," and discovered a juvenile behind the wheel. The driver, Hakim Edwards, said he "was teaching his friend to drive." Edwards was cited for wrongful entrustment, and the juvenile was cited for having no driver's license.
Alcohol talking: A resident in the 1400 block of Ridge Avenue told police he was assaulted, Monday. He said the man was "currently in the process of moving out of the residence but was taking too long," and when he told him he needed to move faster, the man "went after him, kicking him in the shin and foot, leaving scratch marks and blood" but he didn't need any medical attention. The man who was moving out told them the homeowner "was extremely intoxicated and began causing a disturbance" in the residence. He said the homeowner lunged at him, so he defended himself. Police said he had a red mark on his right shin, but he told them he was leaving for the night anyway.
Hasty departure: A woman in the 700 block of Market Square said she was conversing with a visitor when she realized the woman "was about to spray pepper spray" in her home, so she told her to leave, Monday. The pepper spray wasn't deployed, but she was concerned because she has small children living with her.
Charged: A city resident who was taken into custody after police served a warrant for felony drug possession allegedly had more drugs on her, Monday. Police said Allison C. Pool, 37, 1308 Oregon Ave., Steubenville, was charged with possession of cocaine. They said they found a pipe and a substance wrapped in a napkin tucked in Pool's back pocket, and report she told them it was crack. Police said corrections officers booking her into the jail reported finding an additional crack pipe.
Causing trouble: Two people who "do not like one another" made life unpleasant for residents in the 600 block of Ross Street, Thursday. Police spoke to both of them and advised them to avoid contact for the remainder of the night.
Scam: Authorities in Oviedo, Fla., told police they're investigating a fraud case involving someone from the 2200 block of Cherry Avenue posing as the owner of an Oviedo property, Monday. The scammer posted a rental notification and convinced someone to give him $1,000 via Zelle. The lockbox code the scammer gave the victim was not valid.
