Rollover: Two people were injured in a side-by-side rollover accident in the Forbidden Zone in Hammondsville, Saturday. Witnesses said the two were attempting to drive up an incline when the vehicle stalled "and began to flip several times backward down the hill." They said the female passenger was unconscious for a short time and her boyfriend was distraught because he'd been operating it, and both were loaded into a bystander's side-by-side and transported to a more easily accessible location where first responders could find them. The woman was conscious when deputies arrived but had a deep head laceration and complained of rib discomfort. She said she hit her head off the cage when the vehicle flipped over.
Out of control: A Tiltonsville man told deputies his adult grandson tried to fight his father and threatened to kill him, then banged his head on the refrigerator and broke his own cell phone before threatening to physical harm to his grandfather. He said he "can no longer take the arguments, alleged assaults and damaged property" and wanted to pursue charges. The man and his wife had no physical injuries, but deputies noted the refrigerator was dented and he showed them his grandson's broken cell phone. He fled the residence, returning only after deputies had gone, but left again when his grandfather told him he was filing charges.
Phoning it in: A man caused a disturbance at a Tiltonsville business after employees told him they couldn't return a cell phone he'd purchased due to store policy, Sunday. He told them he'd bought the phone for his "dog" but "the FBI had hacked it." Store employees don't want him to come back.
Enraged: A Steubenville teen was booked into the detention center after he allegedly assaulted a family member at his home, Saturday. They said the youth also pushed two other family members until they fell and cursed at all of them.
Cited, served: Carl Peter Horvat, 54, 4863 state Highway 152, Dillonvale, cited for no driver's license and expired plates, and taken to the county line to be served with a Belmont County warrant for child support.
Steubenville Police
Rectory doors damaged: Someone tried to break into Holy Name Rectory, Monday. Church officials told police that sometime during the past week the individual damaged two doors at the rectory. Police said windows on a side door and another door were damaged, but no entry was made.
Sweet nothings: A caller reported seeing a vehicle flashing its headlights toward the Jefferson County jail, Monday. The man in the car said he was "on the phone with his girlfriend who was currently in the jail and was telling her goodnight from the lot," police said.
Can't read: A caller reported that a vehicle was trapped on the Market Street Bridge, Monday. A man whose transport van exceeded the height limit managed to get on the bridge on the Ohio side but stopped just before the height barrier on the West Virginia side, blocking traffic on and off the bridge when he couldn't figure out how to exit the bridge without scraping. He eventually got back in his van and backed it across the bridge despite oncoming traffic, then got hung up again on the Ohio side. He forced his way through before officers arrived.
