Rape charged: A city resident was booked into the Jefferson County jail on a rape charge, Friday. Jashon King, no age listed, 815 N. Sixth St., was taken into custody at the North End Park shelter house, police said. No further details were available.

Animal cruelty: A Pekruhn Court resident said she found three of her kittens dead, Saturday. She told police she found two of them under her car and one on her porch steps and said there was vomit and excrement near the kittens. She suspects a neighbor poisoned them in retaliation for her complaining about their dogs, police said.

Cat fight: Two women were involved in a dispute in the 1500 block of Oregon Avenue, Saturday. One of the women said she'd just gotten home from work when the other woman came out and told her to move her car "as she was preparing to leave her residence." She said she was getting ready to do it when the other woman "began yelling at her and getting too close to her," then tried to get in her car while "continuing to yell" at her. She said the other woman stood in front of her car to keep her from leaving, so she spit on her, and claimed the other woman retaliated by spitting on her "five to 10 times before striking her in the face and closing the car door on her." The neighbor said when she asked the driver to move her car, she "became belligerent with her, calling her derogatory names and then spit on her...without any provocation whatsoever," police said. She denied hitting the other woman.

Sneak peek: Someone reported seeing a male in a black sweatshirt looking into vehicles in the 400 block of Woodland Avenue, Saturday. Police searched the area but didn't locate the individual.

Fraud: A Ridge Avenue resident said a family member made 22 unauthorized withdrawals from her bank account, Friday. The theft totaled just over $400.

Pocket stuffer: Employees at the Sunset Boulevard Dollar General said a woman who appeared to be under the influence of drugs entered the store in a black tank top and gray pants and left wearing merchandise she hadn't paid for, Friday. They said the woman grabbed a hooded sweatshirt, then began stuffing merchandise into the pocket and said she then "made her way through the store, tearing through items and continuing to act erratically." They said the woman also grabbed a coat and when they confronted her, said she fled "wearing merchandise as well as concealing (other items.)" Police viewed surveillance footage and were able to identify the woman.

Break time: Police were asked to do a welfare check on a man lying in the grass in the 1000 block of Adams Street, Friday. They said he was alert "and stated that he was tired and decided to take a nap." Police gave him a ride to his destination.

No show: A business owner told police he thinks an employee stole more than $7,000 from him, Friday. He said the employee was supposed to travel to Detroit to pick up a load of goods for him, but later in the day was notified that he never showed up at the warehouse to pick the load up. The truck he'd taken had a location tracker and the business owner said it was parked at Rogers Flea Market since early in the morning. He said he drove to Rogers and located the truck, but the driver wasn't there. He said he also checked hospitals.
