Disturbance: Police located a missing child at a Plum Street residence, Sunday. The child was returned to the mother’s home, but once the child was turned over “a disturbance between the two broke out.” Both were arrested for domestic violence, police said.
Repeat offenders: Rural King gave police video of a shoplifting incident involving two people, Saturday. Police said the two were already under investigation for previous thefts.
Stayed too long: Police responded to a residence in the 900 block of Lincoln Avenue after a woman called 911 and all dispatchers could hear “was yelling,” Saturday. The woman who lived there told police she wanted her ex to leave her home, but since he’d been living there with her “for an extended period of time” police told her they couldn’t make him go, but he collected some of his belongings and agreed to leave.
Drugs: A caller reported “a woman doing drugs and possibly overdosing” in front of a building in the 100 block of North Fourth Street, Saturday. Police located the woman, who they allege had “a piece of foil that had residue and burn marks on it” along with a lighter, a straw and an open container of alcohol and said it “appeared she had just finished inhaling some type of narcotic.” Police said April Stanley, 48, Weirton, was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and was placed on an eight-hour detox hold at the county jail.
Reported: Multiple calls of shots fired were reported in the vicinity of Woodlawn Road and Roosevelt Avenue, but after checking the area police determined what people heard was fireworks, Sunday.
Stolen: A Wilson Avenue resident reported his gun stolen from his brother’s car, Saturday. He said the vehicle had been parked in the 400 block of Clinton Street on Oct. 8 when someone broke into it, but he didn’t find out until the following day. He said the missing gun was a Smith & Wesson .38 revolver.
Damaged: A Market Street resident said a friend sent her a video of a man destroying furniture she’d had delivered to an Oregon Avenue residence, Saturday. She told police she was supposed to move into the home but changed her mind, but since she knew the occupant, she didn’t cancel the delivery. She said she had a desk, TV stand, dresser and 65-inch TV delivered, but wasn’t sure what was damaged.
Booked: Christa A. Ward, 33, 117 Opal Blvd., Apt. A, Steubenville, warrant out of municipal court alleging misuse of a credit card, Friday; Jody L. Petros, 52, 429 Cove Road, Weirton, warrant for petit theft, Friday.
Jefferson County Sheriff
Violent: Deputies were notified a woman had “a bloody nose, torn clothing and was covered in dirt” after a domestic disturbance, Friday. She said they hadn’t been living together due to her husband’s drug use so he’d been staying “at random friend’s houses” and would show up where she was staying. She said when he showed up unannounced, she told him several times to leave without success until he told her “He needed food and help.” Her sister told deputies they’d gone to the store to buy groceries and some fresh clothes “to help him out,” so his wife allowed him to come into the house long enough to get the supplies but said he “grew angry when (she) told him he couldn’t stay with her” and needed to leave. His wife reported he was angered when she told him she’d filed for a separation. Family members told deputies he’d hit her and choked her several times in the past.
Incident: Employees at an Amsterdam business reported a couple brawling, Saturday. The two “left together” before deputies arrived, but employees showed them a trail of blood through the store and reported seeing the two of them arguing and the male pushing the woman up against a shelf and her trying to “block something from hitting her face.” Deputies responded to the woman’s home and said the front door window was “covered with blood” and the two of them appeared to still be arguing, but when the male realized law enforcement was at the house he “appeared to run out toward the back of the residence.” Deputies said they saw blood drops on the floor and walls and well as a freezer in the dining room, and the woman had a bruise on her bicep as well as dried blood on her arm, nose and shorts. She told them she did not call for help and claimed her boyfriend “had a cut on his hand from the (day before) when he put his hand through the (back door glass)” because it’s hard to close. She claimed the broken door glass was an accident and insisted he hadn’t hit her and “nothing had happened” between them because the blood on her and scattered in the store “was from his hand, that was bleeding” from the day before.
Questions: A county resident requested help because her husband was “intoxicated and destroying her home,” Friday. She left but he was still there when deputies arrived and he told them “They had an argument, but that was it.” Deputies observed things thrown on the floor and two lamps that had been broken, but he claimed his kids broke the lamps several days before. He admitted he shouldn’t be drinking because he’s already on probation in another county for operating a vehicle under the influence, but said he’d “only had a few drinks.” His wife said she’d noticed things had been knocked off the counter onto the floor, lamps and a picture frame broken and the sectional sofa separated, and said she realized he’d been drinking when he asked for her phone to find his. She said he “questioned her about why she was looking at him the way she was” and she told him it was because “he was not supposed to be drinking.” She said when he started arguing with her she grabbed their kids and left, fearing he would harm them or her. She said he hadn’t assaulted her physically “but in the past when (he) drank he would.” Deputies said he became “belligerent and argumentative” when he was taken into custody, arguing with jail staff.
Mail theft: A Bergholz man said he ordered a Samsung Galaxy S23 phone and a Samsung Galaxy 6 Classic smart watch through Amazon, but when it was delivered the watch wasn’t in the box, Saturday. He said the Amazon box was sealed and contained the watch box, but it had been opened and the watch removed. Amazon told him to file a police report.
