Steubenville Police
Vindictive: A gas leak in the 900 block of Lincoln Avenue was traced to a gas line feeding a furnace at a rental property, Tuesday. Police said the furnace had been removed and the property owner said when he’d evicted the tenant at noon Monday, “he personally saw the furnace intact.”
Jealous type: A caller reported a man threatening people with a knife, Monday. A female said the man was her fiance and the incident started after she told him “a male allegedly solicited her for sex” several days before, but the two men had talked and “everything was OK.” She told police she bumped into the man at the bus station and they began talking, and when her fiance saw them “he became angry” and the two argued until the boyfriend allegedly “reached into (the woman’s) purse, took out a knife and threatened the victim.” Witnesses confirmed her account. The victim said the female had asked him for money on a cash app but he refused. He said when the boyfriend came in and saw them talking, he grabbed the knife from her purse and threatened him. He wanted to pursue charges.
House hit: A house in the 2700 block of Cleveland Avenue was damaged in a one-car accident, Tuesday. Police said the driver, identified as Jodie Miller, 54, 414 E. Church St. 34, Wintersville, told them she was backing up when she lost control and her vehicle jumped the curb, traveling through the grass until it struck the corner of the residence and came to rest, causing structural damage. Miller was cited for improper backing and expired plates.
Back and forth: Two men living in the 400 block of Adams Street blamed each other for ongoing problems, Tuesday. One of them said his neighbor was “beating on his apartment door, yelling at his wife and daughter.” The neighbor accused the caller of making a false police report and said he’d just filed for a protection order from him.
Teed up: The owner of a downtown business requested help getting a man to leave his property, Tuesday. Employees pointed out the man, who left when police told him to but complained the store owner threatened him with a baseball bat. The owner said the man was causing a disturbance in his business “and kept reaching inside his pants.” He admitted grabbing a baseball bat for protection but said he never threatened the individual.
Sneaker: A Pershing Avenue resident said he came home from work to find his gun safe missing, Tuesday. He said a .357 revolver, a derringer and a Ruger SR9 semi-automatic handgun were taken. Police spotted white paint chips on the floor under a window in the dining room along with a handprint on the window and a footprint on the ground.
Booked: Albert Dipietro, 62, 3212 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville, possession of drug paraphernalia, two glass pipes. Dipietro also was cited for driving under suspension and having an open container in a motor vehicle after an officer reported seeing his vehicle traveling “at a high rate of speed, attempt to make the left turn from Wellsley Avenue onto Carnegie Street, squealing tires and barely missing the front” of the officer’s police cruiser.
One-car crash: Hailey D. Brown, 18, Tweed Avenue, Steubenville, cited for failure to control. Police said she told them her foot became tangled in wires underneath her dash as she was traveling in the 500 block of South Fourth Street and struck the rear fender of another vehicle, then hit a street sign and a utility pole.
Hit-skip: The owner of a vehicle parked in the 800 block of Oakmont Avenue over the weekend reported his vehicle was struck, Monday. Police said the hit-and-run vehicle left a scuff on the rear driver’s side door, broke the side mirror glass, dinged the front fender and the bumper.
Booked: Dustin J. Mussog, 28, Ross Street, aggravated menacing, Tuesday.
Code violations: Notices of violation were sent to the owner/occupant of a property at 2541 Chestnut St. for car parts, aluminum wheels, indoor chairs and other indoor and yard sale items in cardboard boxes sitting on a large tarp spread across the front yard of the residence; 1312 Arlington Avenue, car parts, old scrap metal and junk piled in the rear of residence; Also, 733 N. Fifth St., 310 Braybarton Blvd., 1307 Arlington, 1335 Pennsylvania Ave., 1333 Pennsylvania Ave. and a garage in the 700 block of South Street, all for high grass/weeds; and 723 South St., junk and an old TV on front porch, high grass/weeds.

Over the top: A female involved in an alleged altercation over the weekend is allegedly harassing an individual who called deputies for assistance, Tuesday. The victim said the female “will not leave her alone,” told deputies she’d called her three times and sent her 19 messages through Facebook Messenger. She was advised to block the female and contact deputies if the harassment continued. They also contacted the female, who was advised to cease all calls and messages to the other party.
More than 200 feet of copper wire was reported stolen from a Wintersville business, Tuesday. The thief cut a hole in a fence surrounding the work site, deputies said. Employees discovered the damage when they went to the location to check on a piece of equipment and noticed the damage.
Nuisance: A man living on county Road 53, Bergholz, told deputies a woman driving a gold-colored vehicle is “parking in the middle of the roadway to use her cell phone due to the poor reception in the area,” Saturday. He said the woman “frequently refuses to move for traffic” and is concerned she may cause an accident. He said she “often sits in the roadway for more than an hour.” Deputies advised the caller to contact the department if he sees her parked in the road again.
Causing problems: A suspicious vehicle was speeding around the Franciscan University of Steubenville campus, Friday. Deputies traced the license plate number relayed to them to a Pennsylvania address. City police said the vehicle had been “driving recklessly” at a high rate of speed on campus and going off road to avoid security vehicles.
Family issues: A Rayland woman told deputies she obtained a temporary order of protection against a family member but after she returned from court he came onto her property, Friday. She said when she told him to get off her property he yelled back, claiming he’d called the EPA on her for a sewage issue and was taking pictures for them. Deputies said it was likely not EPA’s idea for him to trespass on her property. They said given the timing, the protection order hadn’t been served “but it would be … as soon as possible.
Speeding: A man living on township Road 128, Adena, said workers and contractors from a nearby well pad “are constantly speeding” on his road, Friday. He said several vehicles he suspects belong to well paid workers “are parking in his driveway to use the phone.” In addition to increasing patrols, deputies suggested he contact his township trustees about road signs.
Booked: Lincoln Joseph Peacock, 24, 141 First St., Bergholz, domestic violence, Monday. Peacock was taken into custody in connection with an altercation reported at an Amsterdam business over the weekend; Christian Michael Byron, 32, 9371 state Route 164, Amsterdam, domestic violence, Saturday; Travis Paul Burdette, 44, 332 Harmony Drive, Wintersville, domestic violence, Saturday.

No claims: Someone found a small plastic bag with a crack rock in it inside a Jefferson County business, Tuesday. It was turned over to Pottery Addition firefighters, who then contacted deputies.
