Swept away: A Mingo Junction landlord said a woman tried to break into one of his properties, Thursday. He said a bystander told him he saw the woman breaking his window with a broom handle. The bystander said he was meeting a woman to pick up Christmas cookies when he heard glass breaking and looked behind the rental property in time to see the young woman with the broom handle in her hand and said she told him something about living there previously or knowing someone who had lived there and that she "was trying to get some of her belongings out of the residence." He said the young woman and a female with her left in the same silver van that the woman who'd brought him the cookies was in. Deputies talked to the cookie woman, who told them her granddaughter had asked if she could take a friend with her so she could get some of her belongings and said she didn't know "that any of that" was going to happen. She denied knowing how to reach the woman who'd broken the window.

Harrison deputies learned of it after the picture was found on a Martins Ferry student's phone. They then alerted deputies in Jefferson County of the situation.

Questions: A Bloomingdale woman told police her daughter had called her claiming "subjects were in her apartment and possibly drugged her," Monday. When they went to the daughter's downtown apartment she "pointed toward the living area" but police said there was no one there and when they told her, the daughter "became irate ... (and) stated they were just there" and told them they were lying. Police said she was highly intoxicated and was "flailing around and making uncontrolled moments" and was "unable to clearly articulate what had taken place." They said she was "very argumentative and hostile" toward the officers, and before sending her to the hospital for evaluation they found a knife she'd tucked away. At the hospital she told police she'd injected methamphetamine, so police issued her a drug treatment form.

Police said Joshua Johnson, 31, 300 Miller Avenue, Weirton, was booked into the Jefferson County jail on warrants for three counts of petit theft, possession of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia. When they searched Johnson police allege they found several hypodermic needles on him and saw several torn plastic bags with a white powder residue, a push rod and broken pieces of a crack pipe in plain view in his car. They said another burned crack pipe was found in a cigarette pack, and when Johnson was searched again at the jail, corrections officers reported finding two more needles in his underwear. His female passenger, Amanda Martin 33, 127 Bell St., Weirton, was booked on charges of possession of drugs, possession of drug instruments, possession of drug paraphernalia and a bench warrant, while Russell Bennett, 42, 131 Church St., Weirton, was issued a summons to appear in Municipal Court on a drug paraphernalia charge so he could care for a dog that was in the car, police said.
