Bad breakup: A caller reported seeing a male striking a woman he was with and choking her in a parking lot in the 100 block of South Seventh Street, then flee the area in a reddish Chevy Impala, Sunday. They were able to locate the male, who told them he'd had an argument with a woman with whom he'd been having an affair and said he'd met her at the business "to break things off with her." When he told her it was over she threatened to "tell his wife about their on-going relationship" and said he "may have pushed (her) away from him while using the palm of his hand to push her face." The female said they'd had a physical altercation but said she didn't want to pursue charges.

Reality check: Police found a woman who "appeared to be intoxicated and repeating herself" when they responded to a call about an unknown altercation, Saturday. The woman was on the porch when they arrived and told them she was "in the house, drinking" when her male companion started arguing with her, "calling her a drunk and wanted her to stop drinking." She insisted she was not a drunk and does not drink often. She started out complaining that the male had head-butted her in the face, but police said there was no sign she'd been struck. Later, she told them she threw her drink at the male, spilling it on the floor, and later "began to bring up problems in their relationship and wanted (the male) to go to couples therapy with her." The male said he came home and found her drunk and told police she has a problem with drinking herself into going to the hospital, and said she started arguing with him and figured she'd escalate the fight. The female eventually left to stay with a family member.

Problematic: A woman in the alley behind the 500 block of Grandview Avenue told police she'd been inside earlier when her boyfriend "randomly started to punch her and drag her outside," Sunday. Police said it was wet, raining and muddy at the time and the woman "had dry, clean clothes with no dirt or mud and no sign that they...had been in a physical altercation," nor did she have any swelling, bleeding or wounds. They said she appeared to be under the influence of narcotics and said she was with several known heavy drug users" prior to calling police. They said she was "very vague with her story and was more concerned about getting inside the residence than anything else," stating she had a bag of clothes inside and considered herself a residence in the past 24 hours, but also told them she lives downtown. No one was inside the residence, and when Steubenville firefighters arrived she told them her hand was broken but police noted she was moving it and refused medical treatment. Police also noted she'd been involved in a similar call several days before.

Charged: A woman was taken into custody after she allegedly was beating a gas meter at a property in the 300 block of North Sixth Street with a baseball bat, and when a neighbor told her to knock it off walked over to her residence and shattered a large bay window, Sunday. Police said Lisa Smoot, 31, no fixed address, was charged with criminal mischief and possession of drug paraphernalia. They reported finding Smoot with a baseball bat a couple of blocks away and claim she told them she'd "busted a window out of a 'bando' (abandoned property)." She didn't believe them when they told her the residence was occupied and the homeowner was sitting on the other side of the window when shards of glass rained down on him, police said, insisting "the residence was abandoned and therefore no crime was committed." Police allege they found a snort straw in a book bag Smoot was carrying.

Charged: A woman who refused to leave a downtown property when asked ended up being charged, Sunday. April M. Stanley, 48, no fixed address, was charged with disorderly/intoxication when she repeatedly refused to leave the property, then stood in the middle of North Fifth Street yelling obscenities at them. Police said they warned Stanley she would be arrested if she didn't leave the area but allege she stayed in the street yelling obscenities and wasn't making much sense and that she appeared to be "clearly under the influence of some type of drug."

Street fight: A city resident was booked into the county jail on an outstanding warrant after police responded to a report of a man and woman fighting in the street in the 1500 block of Euclid Avenue, Saturday. City police said Theresa Coles, 44, 808 Wilkins St., was charged with a probation violation after they found her and a male companion walking up the steps to a Euclid Avenue residence. The woman who lived there said she was having trouble getting them to leave her residence. The homeowner said she allows the woman to keep a few things in her basement, and said when she got home that day she found the woman and male who were fighting and another man in her apartment. Coles told police she'd been living there for at least a month and had her own bedroom and her personal items were scattered throughout the residence.

Struck: A city resident said her boyfriend hit her in the face during a domestic disturbance in Weirton, then dropped her off in Steubenville to stay at a shelter, Sunday.

Over-watered: Police were asked to check on a resident in the 800 block of North Sixth Street after water was spotted seeping out from under a door into the hallway, Sunday. Police said the homeowner told them he'd accidentally overflowed the bathtub. He was mopping up the water as police left.

Vandalism: A Lincoln Avenue resident said she was in her living room when she heard glass breaking in another room, Sunday. They found a large rock on the floor, and some children in the residence said that after hearing the glass break they saw a black SUV parked at the side of the residence pull out and leave.

Threats: A South Sixth Street resident said a family member's been sending him threats via a third party, Sunday.

Neighbor to neighbor: The new owner of a Salineville property said she had it surveyed and when she returned she discovered someone had already removed four of the survey pins, Dec. 15. She suspects it was done by a neighbor whose driveway goes through her property to get to the road. She said she's planning to erect a fence and once it's done the neighbors will have to cut a new driveway.

Happy customer: Deputies were told a woman walked out of a Wintersville bar without paying her tab, then threw a knife at the bartender, Sunday.
