Steubenville Police

Euclid Avenue residents said a man who they’d previously allowed to stay at their residence for a short time tried to break in through a side window, Friday. They said they were in bed when they heard a bang and spotted the man wearing all black and a Cincinnati hat running north on McDowell, away from the residence. The male resident said when the would-be intruder changed directions and ran back toward the house, he realized who it was and said he’d been wearing the same clothes the night before at Maryland Market. The female said there’d been “ongoing problems” between her and the intruder.

Drugs: A resident in the 700 block of North Seventh Street said a man overdosed in her apartment, Friday. She told police he’d come by to visit but she had to go to the store. She said when she left he was sitting on her sofa but by the time she got home he was “on the floor, not breathing.” She said he’s known to use cocaine, though police did not observe any drugs or paraphernalia near him.

Anger issues: Plum Street residents said they heard someone “trying to kick in the downstairs door,” Saturday. She said a juvenile who lives in the building “came upstairs and was pounding on her door,” but she didn’t see who kicked in the door. Police said there was a hole in the door and several pieces of wood on the floor.

Repeat offender: A heavy-set woman fled J.C. Penney with what appeared to be a garbage bag loaded with merchandise she hadn’t paid for, Saturday. Employees said she’s stolen from the store in the past and came back, this time with an older woman wearing a face mask and said the two of them made their way through the store, then left in a hurry.

Friendly type: A man walking in the 100 block of South Seventh Street said he heard someone running behind him and when he went to move of the way, the woman “punched him in the head,” Saturday. He didn’t want to pursue charges but told police he saw the same woman assault another individual, also female, and said she “seemed to be badly injured.” He said the female victim lived “somewhere at Gaylord Towers,” but police couldn’t find her. They had located the perpetrator, but since the male didn’t want to pursue charges and they couldn’t find the female victim, they took her home.

Had his say: A disturbance at a fast-food restaurant turned out to be an employee venting on his last day, Saturday. Bystanders said he was “venting about the operation of the store as well as the work ethic of his fellow employees.” Police said the employee “left willingly and hugged the manager.”

Odd man out: A man claimed he’d been assaulted at his residence in the 400 block of Lawson Avenue, Saturday. Police said they didn’t see any visible injuries and he refused to give them any more information, though he did ask for a ride home. Once there police spoke with several people who said “everything was fine and that they all had an argument” over him living there. Since he’s lived at the residence an extended period of time, police told them they’d have to go to court to have him evicted.

Life change: Callers asked police to check on a man who they thought had overdosed in a car parked in a Sunset Boulevard parking lot, Sunday. Police said the man was alert and told them he’s “currently living inside his vehicle.” He said he’d purchased food and had fallen asleep and said he didn’t need medical attention. Police said there was no drug paraphernalia in view.

Vengeful: A woman asked police to check on the welfare of a child in the 400 block of South Fifth Street, claiming the child’s mother is in an abusive relationship, Sunday. Police spoke with the child and the mother, and both appeared to be fine. The mother said she’d argued with the caller and told her she was no longer welcome to visit the child and said the other woman told her “She was going to call the police should she not be allowed to see the juvenile.”

Reports: A caller reported hearing what sounded like gun shots in the 1300 block of Oregon Avenue, but police said they didn’t find anything to suggest a weapon had been fired, Friday. A male out walking told them he heard loud bangs but wasn’t sure fireworks were involved in it or not.

Walked away: A Lawson Avenue resident said a woman “knocked on his door, stating that a male was assaulting her” but he only saw her arguing with a male, Saturday. The female had already left the area and police couldn’t locate her. The male who was with her was advised to “leave the area and leave her alone.”

Had enough: Police were asked to check on the welfare of a man stumbling in the roadway, Saturday. When they located him the male said he’d had a couple of drinks at a friend’s house and left because the two were beginning to argue. He said he lives in Wheeling and needed a ride home, so they transported him to the police station where he was able to contact a family member to pick him up.

Blow up: A disturbance involving a male and female was reported in the 100 block of North Fourth Street, Sunday. When they arrived a woman told police she’d been arguing with a friend and ask she escorted him out of the building “she … screamed at him, which had caused the neighbors to be alarmed.” She said the disagreement was strictly verbal.
