Attention getter: An Empire woman who called 911 said a man was causing a disturbance at her residence and "knocked the phone out of her hand and pulled her hair" before fleeing across the street, Friday. Deputies and a Saline township officer responded but were unable to locate the man, who they said is wanted in Columbiana County as well as Hancock County.
Tracked: A Dillonvale woman found an AirTag on her vehicle, Sunday. She said she is not certain who put it there, but said she and her husband are estranged. Deputies said police had recently investigated a domestic incident.
Unauthorized use: A Dillonvale man let his nephew have his truck for emergency use but the nephew's girlfriend drove it without his knowledge and wrecked it in Ohio County, Saturday. He wants to pursue unauthorized use charges, but deputies were advised to have his nephew file a report with Bridgeport police.
No one's laughing: Three children admitted to making prank calls alleging a juvenile had been abducted and taken to a motel in Weirton, Monday. Deputies said several businesses in the Weirton area were notified, including Weirton police.
Not wanted: A Richmond man said there was a gas leak, and he was trying to get his female companion to exit the property, but the woman told deputies there "was no gas leak (and) he was just trying to get her to leave," Sunday.
Irresponsible: A Wintersville man dumped a dog at an abandoned residence on township Road 676 now owned by his father, Thursday. Deputies had told the man earlier that he couldn't just abandon the animal, as had his father, but when they left the area he returned and tied it to the porch.
Bottom feeder: A Hillsboro woman said her fiance's father has been scammed out of tens of thousands of dollars by a 30-year-old woman he met on Facebook, Thursday. Her fiance's father, an Adena man in his 80s, suffers from Alzheimer's disease and is in a nursing home. He'd had $40,000 in his bank account but that's been depleted, and he took out a $20,000 loan, but it's gone, too. She said he's told them he also sent his "girlfriend" gift cards to different locations around the country, even as his own car has been repossessed, he's $1,500 in arrears on his cell bill and is withdrawing most of his Social Security money. She said three additional lines were added to his cell account and three iPhones were purchased on it and mailed to him with instructions to forward them to another address, which he said he did. He's refusing to give his family information on the scam artist or the screen names she uses.
Steubenville Police
Down and out: Callers reported two unresponsive people in a fast-food drive-thru, Sunday. They were still out when officers arrived but awoke when they knocked on the window. They told the police they'd been up all night and were tired and because the drive-through was so slow they nodded off. Police said the driver showed no sign of impairment.
Crazy talk: Police were told a man took a woman in the 400 block of South Fifth Street into a bedroom at gunpoint, Sunday. The caller told them another man known as "Dice" had shown up at the door that morning and after he let him in the man "became angry and asked him why he was 'puppeting him' then pulled out a handgun." He said he fled when the man went to an upstairs bedroom and posed the same questions to a woman who was there. Police located the woman, who told them she'd let the man they called Dice "stay there periodically over the last two months" and confirmed he'd pointed the gun at her and a friend. Police searched the house but didn't find him, although they did find "a blanket covering a large object, and then observed the blanket slide down" and saw a man sitting on the couch. He said he'd been sleeping and was unaware of anything going on in the residence.
Conflicting: A woman in the 400 block of South Fourth Street said she was playing Xbox and talking to several people online when another female came in her room "and confronted her about cheating on her boyfriend," Sunday. She said she argued with the woman, who is her boyfriend's sister. is the other female's brother and they argued, and, and said the female grabbed a taser and attempted to use it on her but other people in the room got between them. The other female claimed she was the victim and said the woman who'd been playing Xbox "began following her to her room to the point where she believed that (she) was going to assault her." They were separated for the night.
