Distracted: A female motorist told police she was so busy watching for vehicles darting in and out in the Wal-Mart parking lot that she didn't see an older man in the crosswalk, Monday. Police said the man was nearly through the crosswalk when she hit him, knocking him to the ground. The motorist was not cited, though police did list her at fault for the accident.

Common sense: Police had to tell a man who was "standing in the bed of (a) truck and holding onto the roof" in the 2700 block of Sunset Boulevard that it wasn't safe, Monday. They said he and the driver were both warned they were breaking the law.

Bad turn: The driver of a semi trying to make a delivery at Pleasant Food told police he "accidentally caught an overhead phone line: when he pulled into the lot, Monday. He said the phone line was connected to the second-story window of a structure in the 1300 block of West Adams Street. Police said the cable snapped after dislodging part of the window."

Shattered: Two men in the 600 block of North Fifth Street were arguing, Monday. One of the men told police he'd come to the location to get his belongings but wasn't being allowed in to get them, but the resident said he was asleep when the man started banging on his door, waking him. Before coming to the door, he said he heard a window breaking and discovered the rear window in his truck had been shattered. He told police he suspected the man who'd been banging on his door, but the man denied it, and no one in the vicinity could say how the window was broken.

Easy money: Police were told someone stole a catalytic converter from a delivery truck parked outside a Sunset Boulevard business sometime in the last three weeks, Monday.

Carted off: Downtown residents are facing charges after they allegedly pushed a shopping cart full of merchandise out of Kroger without paying, Monday. Police said Louis Sadler, 54, and Angela Sadler, 53, both of 818 N. Eighth St., Steubenville, had more than $200 in merchandise that hadn't paid for when they were taken into custody.

Reported: An officer on patrol in the Pleasant Heights area reported hearing seven shots fired, Sunday. He said he'd heard two shots, followed by three more before the last two were fired and said that, given the way the shots were heard, it sounded like back-and-forth gunfire. Officers were subsequently told it sounded as though shots had possibly come from the Lovers Lane/Sinclair Avenue area, then someone in a mall parking lot said it "sounded as though the shots fired had come from an area off of Lovers Lane." They checked the area but were unable to find evidence to support the reports and said no other calls had been received.

Left behind: A Follansbee resident said she forgot to take the $60 cash back she'd requested at the Wal-Mart self-checkout, Sunday. When she went back into the store it was already gone, but the store had video of the thief taking the money.

Pushing it: A Mingo Junction woman upsetting her neighbors by playing loud music all day, March 8. She told deputies they were threatening her because she always plays music but was unable to produce an example, telling deputies it didn't matter because she just wants the neighbor to know that "she is allowed to play music and to leave her alone." She said "she knows the law because she was married to a police officer." They told her that while they don't enforce ordinances in the county, they do enforce state law and if they continue to get complaints and they adjudge the music to be "excessively and intentionally loud," she would be charged with disorderly conduct and told her playing music loud "isn't the way to get along." Deputies told the neighbors to stay away from the woman who plays music loud.
