Stick up: A robber fled Special Way, 232 county Road 50, Irondale, with an undisclosed amount of cash Sunday, Chief Clifford Utt confirmed. The robbery was reported to police around 8:15 p.m. Sunday.

"A man entered the store, he had a gun and took the money from the register," Utt said. He added the salesclerk was the only person in the store at the time of the robbery.

No further details are available, he said, because "the investigation is ongoing, it's still in the preliminary stages."

Constant questions: A Wintersville business reported receiving 31 phone calls from a Toronto man "yelling at employees and accusing (them) of calling him...and waking him up" and then threatened to come there and "shoot the place up," Saturday. When employees tried to explain no one had called they said he kept yelling at them and they ended up hanging up on him, but he kept calling back and continued to be belligerent. The owner recorded one call where the Toronto man "was yelling and calling the staff" vulgar expletives and said at one point a female got on the phone "and began accusing the staff of saying things they did not say and defending (the Toronto man's) phone calls." They said he finally stopped calling after the 31st call and while he didn't make any direct threats, they reported he did say he was "going to come down to the store."

Big bang theory: A Dillonvale man reported hearing a "loud explosion" coming from his neighbor's property, and when he checked saw a "large black mark in the grass that looked like something had exploded there," Saturday. The neighbor said he'd set off "what he thought was a firework but ... was something more than that." He was advised residents cannot "set off explosions" within village limits and if he wanted to do it again he'd have to go somewhere else. The neighbor said it wouldn't happen again.

Burned up: A Bloomingdale woman was upset because her neighbor was burning debris near her propane tank, Sunday. She told deputies the burn pit was about 5 feet from her tank and the neighbor had already been warned that burning inside village limits is prohibited, but when they arrived deputies said they found the man had a "very small fire" burning "20 yards or more away from the propane tank and at a safe distance." Deputies told the homeowner there was no danger but said "she did not agree."

Wakeup call: A Sunshine Park Road resident called 9-1-1 but gave the dispatcher the wrong address and when they tried to confirm his information "became upset and hung up," Sunday. When they called back they said the man "sounded really upset and was talking about a missing person named Joseph," but kept telling them an address that didn't exist. His agitation increased so deputies responded and eventually figured out the man "woke up from a bad dream and was concerned if everyone was OK."

Seeing is believing: A Mingo Junction man reported seeing a prowler crawling under his truck, Saturday. Deputies were unable to locate the heavyset man with a tool bag that the homeowner described to them, either by the vehicle or in the vicinity, but he also told them it's not the first time odd things have happened. He said he's come home on other occasions to find his porch gate unlatched and said he's felt someone had been prowling around his property on four occasions, though this was the first time he said he's actually seen someone.

Drugs: A man was reported overdosing at a Yorkville location, Sunday. Deputies said they administered Narcan and performed CPR to resuscitate the male, who eventually told them he'd used heroin. No drugs or paraphernalia were found, but a female who was present said she'd "flushed everything down the toilet" while they were speaking with the male "because she didn't want him coming back in and using again." Deputies said the male was belligerent and refused medical assistance, ignoring concerns voiced by medical personnel as well as "commands given to him" by deputies.

Injured: A caller reported a dirt bike accident near the Forbidden Zone off township Road 307, Saline township, Saturday. The victim, a 19-year-old Salem resident, advised he thought he broke his leg when he wrecked his bike. Witnesses said he was "riding a wheelie" on township Road 307 when his bike went into a roadside ditch and he was thrown into some rocks along the embankment. He was taken to the hospital for treatment but his dirt bike was unscathed, deputies said.

Been there: A Steubenville area resident told deputies she was out of town and found out her son was "having a party and her house was getting trashed," Saturday. She said she wanted the juveniles removed from her home.

Shots: Two gunshots were reported in the 100 block of Brondus Avenue, Sunday. A male there said a man known to him "came to the residence and told him to meet him outside" and when he did, the man "drew a firearm and fired one round before running back to his vehicle" and fleeing the scene. Police recovered a 9 mm shell casing but said the bullet didn't seem to hit anyone or anything.

Keyed up: A Market Street resident said a woman keeps banging on her doors, demanding a set of keys, Sunday. She said when she told the woman she didn't have them, "she became agitated and has been trying to get (her) to come outside to fight." She said the woman has also been knocking at her father's door.

Walk ins: A man was seen entering an abandoned building in the 600 block of Franklin Avenue, Monday. Police said when they found him behind the structure he told them he'd been arguing with his wife and said she'd walked off in that direction. Shawn Whittekind, 46, 142 N. Sixth St., Steubenville, was booked for criminal trespass, police said. Police said they located his wife behind the building and spoke with her.

Camping out: A man had a small campfire burning in a parking lot in the 100 block of North Fourth Street, Sunday. He said the owner had given him permission to sleep in the lot, but police were unable to confirm it. He put the fire out and left the area and was advised not to return until he had proof he had permission to be there.

Ownership question: Two women in the 400 block of North Fifth Street were arguing, Sunday. Police were told one of them was moving out and they were bickering over a TV and DVD player the woman who was moving out said her boyfriend had given her. She told police she was storing both itmes at a family member's residence. The other woman said she wanted those items mentioned in a police report since the boyfriend "is currently incarcerated."

Persistent problem: A man who has been banned from a number of properties throughout the city was spotted in the vicinity of Finnegan Fieldhouse on the campus of the Franciscan University of Steubenville Franciscan Field House "bothering" people, Sunday. Police checked the area but he was already gone. Later the same man was causing problems at Franciscan Way and police were asked to remove him. He was told he was no longer welcome on the property.
