Steubenville Police
Throw down: Two men who went to a tow yard to retrieve a vehicle sheriff's deputies had ordered towed ended up in a fist fight, Friday. Police said the younger man initially told them there was no problem even though his hands had fresh scrapes and cuts on them, but eventually confessed that that it was "a simple miscommunication and minor altercation" over the payment of the tow fee. The two were related, and neither of them wanted to pursue charges, each denied medical attention and neither left with the vehicle after the sheriff's office advised the business owner it was not to be released.
Cautionary tale: A city resident told police that after she ordered an item from the Temu website she started finding fraudulent charges on her debit card, Saturday. She flagged five online transactions totaling just under $550. She said she's only been on the website once.
Didn't like the answer: A Greenwich Avenue resident responded with "cussing and (was) disrespectful" when police told her a neighbor could ride his dirt bike in his back yard if he wanted to, Friday. Police said as long as he stays on his own property, he's within his rights, but when they told the woman there was "nothing criminal about his bike in the backyard" she was irate.
Over the limit: A Wintersville man was charged after police say they found him sleeping in a vehicle blocking the 100 block of Aberdeen Road, Saturday. Police said Shawn P. Stead, 44, 106 Starkdale Road, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence after he allegedly tested more than three times the legal limit. They claimed Stead told them he'd consumed about half a fifth of whiskey, which is about what they say was left in a bottle of Crown Royal they found on the floor behind the driver's seat.
No help: Firefighters assisting a woman in the 800 block of Rosswell Avenue called police to the scene because they felt the woman had been involved in a domestic disturbance, Saturday. She'd told firefighters she and her husband "were drinking and she'd tried to stop him getting in the car." Police said she was drunk and had dried blood around her mouth, but they couldn't find the source and she refused to speak with them.
Charged: Two people were charged with possessing drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop in the 1200 block of Oregon Avenue, Friday. Police said Brook A. Carothers, 34, Magnolia, Ohio, and Jack E. Grace, 39, 697 Country Club Road, Cadiz, were taken into custody after police reported finding crack pipes in their vehicle.
Summoned: Jackie S. Gibson, 3270 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville, misdemeanor theft, Saturday. Walmart employees allege Gibson "tag switched" merchandise.
Loud and proud: Residents in the 400 block of S. 6th Street and the 4500 block of Scioto Drive were told to keep the noise down, Saturday. The S. 6th Street resident was playing their radio too loud for neighbors.
