Steubenville Police

Supervision needed: Juveniles were asked to leave a mall business and on the way out argued with an officer and the business's management and "kicked over a cigarette bin" at the entrance, Friday.

Mistaken identification: A Sunset Boulevard resident told police she heard a gunshot and she thought she'd been hit, Sunday. An officer realized a window had been damaged and the homeowner said the damage was new. Police said it "looked like someone may have thrown a rock at the window" and said they didn't find anything to indicate a gun had been fired.

Mum's the word: A couple in the 900 block of McKinley Avenue caused a disturbance, Friday. The female said they'd been arguing but refused to tell police what went on, refused medical attention and was unwilling to pursue charges. The male said she'd "been drinking heavily and began causing a disturbance." He left for the night.

Doesn't want help: Someone reported a man attacking his female companion in the 500 block of Arden Avenue, Friday. Police located the woman who said the disturbance was "nothing more than the usual arguing" and he'd threatened her. She refused to say more. They said the male arrived and he "locked the doors to the residence and refused to respond to officers on scene." She told him her boyfriend "would likely allow her back into the residence" once police left the area. Since neither of them were cooperative police left.

Grassy knoll: A Colonial Drive resident said a male took her car and house keys and wouldn't give them back, Saturday. He said he returned the car key but said he didn't have the house key. The female thought he might have thrown her house keys into a grassy area near the building but police checked and didn't find them. They said the male left the area to avoid any more problems.

Assault charged: A Sunset Boulevard resident said her boyfriend assaulted her, Saturday. Police said the woman's arms were red and bruising and she wanted to pursue charges. She also asked them to help her retrieve her children from the residence. Police said the male initially refused to let her have the kids and kept his dog between them "in an aggressive manner," but they eventually got him out of the residence. Anthony Burns, 27, 3631 Sunset Blvd., Apt. 2, was booked into the county jail on a domestic violence charge, police said.

Charged: A female stopped for a traffic violation ended up in custody, Saturday. Police said Nyazia Lee, 22, 816 Walters Ave., was charged with possession of drugs and tampering with evidence, in addition to a citation for a display of plates violation. Lee was stopped on Ridge Avenue at Pittsburgh Street after an officer noticed her license plate was missing. She initially said it had been stolen, then said she had a plate in her trunk. Police spotted several pieces of a white, rock-like substance believed to be cocaine base in her vehicle.

Concerned: Police responded to an Oregon Avenue address for a domestic dispute, but the woman there said there was no problem, Friday. She said the father of her children had been there earlier and he'd taken her phone. Police said someone had "called because they heard arguing over the phone."

Blunder: A man loaded a shopping basket with juice, Gatorade, a phone charger and other items and fled Kroger without paying, Friday. Police said the man had parked in the fire lane and put the basket in his car before fleeing, but cameras caught what police described as a "clear view" of the car's license plate and say the registered owner appears to be the shoplifter.

Dog's world: A Euclid Avenue resident complained a woman living behind her "refused to keep (her) dog on a leash and it keeps coming on her property," Friday. She said the dog followed her daughter home but hadn't harmed anything, though she also pointed out in the past a neighbor's dog had killed her own. They talked to the neighbor who said the caller had "threatened to shoot her dog and (swore) at her daughter." All involved were advised to stay away from each other and the errant dog's owner was advised to keep it on her own property.

Scrappy: A disturbance in the 1600 block of Roosevelt Avenue turned out to be two men arguing over scrap metal and the disagreement "carried out into the roadway," Friday. Both men insisted nothing physical had occurred and the issue had been resolved.

Parting ways: A North Fifth Street resident said he wanted his cousin and her dog to leave his residence, Friday. Police said the dog was large and he feared it, and she admitted it was "an ongoing issue between them."

Big hit: A South Fifth Street resident said she sat her backpack down when some kids wanted to play with her dog and then forgot to pick it up, Friday. She said it had contained $330 in cash plus clothing and makeup.

Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to the owners/occupants of properties at 1420 Orchard St. and 522 Ross St., high grass/weeds.
