West Virginia State Police

Charged: Matthew R. Hileman, 24, 1309 Walker Road, Follansbee, driving under the influence and improper lane change, Sunday.

Steubenville Police

Noisy night: A McKinley Avenue resident told police he wanted a man who's been renting a room from him to leave, Monday. He said he'd allowed the man to stay there, but that night he'd "brought a female friend home and they are causing a disturbance." He said he'd given the tenant a 30-day notice to vacate, but when his tenant showed the notice to police they advised the homeowner it had to be issued by a judge.

Dog problem: A couple walking to their car with their dog on a leash said another, unleashed dog ran off a porch in the 1100 block of Oak Grove Avenue and attacked their dog, biting one of the owners in the process, Sunday. The woman had a bite mark on her left wrist. A man who retrieved the dog claimed he'd been dog sitting and didn't know if the dog had had its rabies shot, but the victims told police they think he's the aggressive dog's owner because they see him walking it on a regular basis "and has done so for an extended period of time." The aggressive dog, the man who'd retrieved it and a woman had already left the area.

Trying to get back in: A woman needed police help getting back inside a S. Court Street residence, Saturday. She said she had been arguing with her boyfriend and when she stepped outside he locked the door behind her. Her boyfriend advised police the argument started because she wanted to go to a party at a local club and he wasn't interested. She said she was willing to leave but needed a pair of shoes first, and after learning she'd been living there for two years they told the man if he didn't want her there he'd have to evict her.

Split decision: A Sherman Avenue resident said he was assaulted by several people, Sunday. He said he'd been having a problem with a neighbor and they started arguing. Once they were done he claimed someone tackled him to the ground and began assaulting him. He said once he was on the ground several more people got involved. Police said he had minor back injuries and wanted to pursue charges but "did not know who all was involved."

Walk-ins not welcome: Homeowners in the 400 block of Spring Avenue claimed a man known to them "pushed their door open, walked into the house and began arguing with and threatening them," Sunday. The man's stepson had taken refuge at the residence because he was arguing with the boy's mother. The stepfather said he'd gone across the street to get the boy and when he knocked on the front door it opened and then the homeowners "began shouting at him and accusing him of breaking into the house." The boy's mother decided he could stay with the other couple "until the situation resolved itself."

Unhappy resident : A North Commercial Avenue resident said someone shattered her window with a 2-by-4 and she'd also found several scratches and dents on her air conditioner, Sunday. She said there are "a lot of homeless people in the area and ... believes (they) could have caused the damage." She said several have been squatting "in an abandoned property near her residence." Police said she made it clear she was "upset about the window and the entire situation and shared (with them) her frustration with the homeless people in the area and ... living in the abandoned property."

Didn't listen: A man who ignored police advice to stay off the street and out of trouble ended up booked into the Jefferson County jail on an eight-hour intoxication hold, Monday. Police said Jacob Galbreath, 34, no fixed address, was charged with intoxication/disorderly conduct. Police said they initially encountered Galbreath in the 100 block of North Fourth Street, where he'd complained he'd "been kicked out of the City Rescue Mission and couldn't return for 24 hours." He also said "... the staff had moved his belongings into an office and told him to come back in 24 hours" and argued that was theft, but police said they "could smell an odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his person, along with bloodshot, glossy eyes: and admitted he'd been drinking. They told him he couldn't wander on city streets in that condition and advised him to find a place to go for the remainder of the night, but a short time later reported he appeared at the police station "trying to file the same complaint."

Handicapped enforcement: The owner of a gray Lexus with a Virginia registration parked in a handicapped spot in the 1000 block of Wellesley Avenue was asked to move after a caller reported it to police, Sunday.

Reported: Bystanders told police they saw two juveniles throwing rocks at another group of juveniles, Sunday.

Theft: A city resident told police someone used her old iPhone to transfer $436 out of her Cash App without her consent, Sunday.

Booked: Jordan Wallace, 23, 427 S. Fifth St., Steubenville, domestic violence, Sunday.

Jefferson County Sheriff

False alarm: A man flagged a motorist down in Fernwood campground and asked him to call for help because his friend "walked off into the forest and is highly intoxicated and hasn't been seen in more than 30 minutes." It was later determined that "nobody was missing and the (alleged) missing person was located in Weirton with a friend," deputies said.

Needs help: A caller reported a woman was refusing to leave her ex's porch in Mingo Junction, Sunday. Deputies located the unwelcome visitor, who told police she'd checked herself out of the hospital and made her way to the residence, unaware he didn't want her back. Later, a caller reported seeing the same woman hiding in a bush in the 200 block of Court Alley. City police said the woman was "visibly upset and slurring her words" and was upset because her boyfriend had had her admitted to the hospital. She told police she'd hitched a ride to Steubenville and admitted she'd been drinking. Police arranged for her to return to the hospital.

It's no wonder: A Wintersville woman said a neighbor's aggressive dog attacked her husband and her own dog, Saturday. She said her husband had to jump over a pool fence to save their Yorkie, which the other dog bit, and said it's not the first time the aggressive dog has run loose. Deputies said the aggressive dog's owner was "uncooperative and irate," refusing to give the dog warden the information he needed to issue her citation or to sign a necessary form and told him to "just take the dog, she's tried of the drama." Her male friend also refused to provide identification.

Fired up: Someone reported hearing three gunshots in the area of Colonial Heights in Wintersville, Wednesday. Deputies made several passes through the area but didn't find anything.
