Steubenville Police

Wrong number: A woman was heard screaming inside a residence in the 1300 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, Wednesday. Two women and a man were inside the residence and one of the females said she was arguing with the male “over her finding out he had been texting” the other woman, but she denied anything physical had taken place. The male was adamant nothing physical had taken place, police said. All were advised to separate for the night.

Up on the roof: A Ridge Avenue resident reported seeing “intoxicated individuals causing a disturbance on the roof” of a residence in the 1600 block, Thursday. Police said they didn’t see anyone on the roof of the building in question, nor was there any disturbance. They spoke with the resident and advised him of the complaint.

BB problem: A resident in the 300 block of South Seventh Street said someone shot at her window while she was standing in it, Thursday. She said she’d looked out her upstairs window and saw the man walking toward her home and “shot at her while she was still standing in the window.” She told police he then ran behind her house and she thought he tried to kick her door in. Police said they could see a hole in her window and were able to dig a BB out of her wall, but didn’t see any damage to her door.

Jumped in: Police were told “a large group” was fighting at Fourth at Slack streets, but when they arrived officers said no one was fighting, Tuesday. The mother of one of the kids said the others accused her son of stealing a bike and after a few moments, her son and another kid began fighting. Eventually the other kids friends tried to gang up on her son so she “got in the middle of the fight and separated everyone who was involved.” The juveniles claimed she “kicked the other juvenile who was involved in the back,” and one of them did have minor scratches but when police took him home and spoke with his mother, they decided not to pursue charges.

Told to go: Police had to tell two people with no fixed address to leave a porch in the 300 block of North Fifth Street, Tuesday. The pair were “set up with all their belongings on the porch,” but the owner is trying to sell the building and has people cleaning. They were advised to gather their things and not return.

Disfunctional: A male was sent to the hospital after a caller reported he’d been behind a property in the 100 block of South Fourth Street for about 90 minutes and half of that time he wasn’t functional, Wednesday. Police said the male seemed to be under the influence of drugs and was unable to speak clearly, and “seemed to using (hand) motions that he smoked something or snorted something.” An officer found a pill bottle in his bag but advised he’d “consumed whatever he had.”

Twilight zone: A city resident said strange things have been happening at her home and believes her ex and his friend are behind it, Tuesday. She said random items around the house have turned up missing, including three passports and food. She said on one occasion she found an empty bottle of orange juice on the floor next to the bathroom that had been full and in her refrigerator earlier in the day.

Curbed: A motorcyclist was cited after he struck the curb as he negotiated a curve and his bike ended up on its side, Tuesday. Damage was minimal but police said Frank Aracich, 51, 737 Sophia St., East Liverpool, was cited for driving under suspension and failure to control a motor vehicle.

Behaving badly: An employee of a North Seventh Street business asked police to tell a couple who’d been disrespectful and caused problems not to return, Tuesday. He told police they started causing trouble as soon as he told them they weren’t allowed to bring a child into the store, but he let them complete their purchase but once they did the woman “started having an issue over the receipt.” When he told the woman she needed to leave the store he said the male came back inside and caused more trouble, but left when he said he was calling police.

Vandalized: Someone reported a broken window at a residence in the 200 block of N. Commercial Avenue, Thursday.

Smith, 35, 2219 Commercial Ave., Mingo Junction, both for prohibited left turn (from Bryden Road onto Sunset Boulevard); Kevin M. Saunders, 44, 1244 Maryland Ave., Steubenville and Jessie J. Reese, Cove Road, Weirton, all for speeding.

Sparring: A woman was in the Jefferson County Justice Center reporting an assault while the male she claimed was responsible for her injuries waited outside, Tuesday. Deputies said the man admitted they’d been in an altercation but claimed she’d been the primary aggressor. He had blood on his hands but deputies said at first glance they couldn’t determine if it was hers or his. She told Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies she was driving in downtown Steubenville when he assaulted her, and since it happened in the city’s jurisdiction Steubenville Police took over the investigation. She told city police they’d been arguing about a job interview he’d just done and he asked for a ride home but the argument continued, and she claimed he punched her eye and head and pulled her hair. They weren’t married, didn’t live together and had no children in common and neither of them wanted to file charges, police said.
