Six months too late: A Steubenville woman threatened to “burn the Jefferson County Animal Shelter down with the animals and employees inside” because Humane Society volunteers wouldn’t tell them where they could find a dog that had been brought in more than six months ago as a stray, Sunday. The woman’s sister, also from Steubenville, also called and told the volunteers to “sleep with one eye open.”

Childish: An Amsterdam woman claimed a neighbor came onto her property and “physically put his hands on her after screaming at her about how she’s destroyed the neighborhood since she moved in,” but the neighbors told deputies she was screaming profanities and demanding to speak with them because they complained about her pig going onto their property again, Sunday. She said her ex-fiance put the pig back on her property for her and complained the neighbor’s wife “is constantly teasing her animals by shaking bird seed, which causes her animals to break out of her fence and go onto” the neighbor’s property. She said she’d been away from home but when she got back she walked in front of their home and screamed at them to “keep my name out of your mouth” and went home, then claimed the neighbors showed up screaming at her. He said the woman pushed him and started to swing her fist at him so he “which is when he grabbed her hair to pull her off him” but lost his balance and fell.

Dysfunctional neighbors: A Richmond man told deputies a man was “tearing up” a neighbor’s driveway, Sunday. A deputy surveyed the driveway, which he reported “appeared to have deep gravel in it” and said he could see ruts where it appeared the driver might have been stuck. The man told him “it was raining hard and was foggy” and with the two driveways side-by-side, he’d pulled into the wrong one and got stuck in his neighbor’s gravel. The woman with the graveled driveway wasn’t home so he talked to her by phone and reported she was “frustrated” they didn’t go back to her residence. They told her since the man didn’t destroy her property with criminal intent it would be a civil matter. He said the woman sent him video of the incident, which he said documented the man’s report that it was “extremely foggy and raining extremely hard. Also, in the video you can see the truck’s tires spinning and struggling to get out of the thick and deep gravel.”

Hands off: Eric Allen Young, 52, 11748 state Route 213, Toronto, domestic violence, Saturday. Deputies said Young allegedly choked a juvenile because the child hadn’t cleaned a grill, and though he initially denied wrongdoing they reported he eventually told him “He did it on accident” and that he’d previously been involved in altercations involving the child’s mother. The child’s mother told deputies that in the past he’s thrown her to the floor and dragged her by her legs and she is afraid of him. Deputies said the child fled the home and was hiding in a tree. They said red marks were visible on the child’s neck.

Trashy: A Tiltonsville resident battling cancer said a neighbor’s dog is keeping her awake, Saturday. She said she has trouble sleeping and when she gets the chance to sleep the dog starts barking and keeps her awake. She showed deputies Ring doorbell footage from that morning that captured images of the neighbor’s wife spitting on her door while the neighbor made barking noises.

Bad move: A Jefferson County teen was taken to the detention center after he told deputies investigating a report that he was being unruly that he could “do what the (expletive) I want,” Saturday. Deputies said they were trying to talk with family members to determine what had triggered his original outburst, which included breaking things and striking adults who were present.

Low blow: A woman who’d rented a storage unit in the Steubenville area said someone broke in and dumped her mother’s ashes out and stole her father’s ashes and the ash holder, Saturday. The items along with bunkbeds and camouflage hunting gear were taken since she was last there in December.

Attempted break-in: Deputies were told someone tried to break into a Wintersville residence, Saturday. Deputies said there were pry marks on the door, but the owner didn’t think entry was made.

Stolen: A man who left his Polaris side-by-side parked on township Road 378 after encountering mechanical issues said he discovered it had been stolen overnight, Sunday.

Suspect timing: A Toronto man told deputies tools have turned up missing from his property since he’d agreed to fix up a car in his driveway for a passerby who said he wanted to buy it, Friday.

Served: Jared A. Holland, 30, 146 Liberty St., Dillonvale, warrant out of Fairfield County, April 30.

Steubenville Police

Plucky: A female motorist told police she rear-ended the car in front of her when she tried to pick up a pair of tweezers she’d dropped, Sunday. The accident took place on Sunset Boulevard at Bryden Road, they said. The other driver said he’d signaled a right turn onto Bryden Road when he saw the driver of the other car looking down before crashing into the rear of his car. Both cars were damaged but no injuries were reported.

Wrong place, wrong time: A downtown resident was taken into custody for violating a no-contact order, Monday. Police said Gene A. Smith Jr., 56, 304 N. Third St., was charged with contempt of court after he was spotted “lingering in the doorway and … pestering the cashier and incoming customers at the downtown Speedway, Monday.

Suspicious: A caller reported seeing two men “looking underneath cars” at a lot downtown, Monday. Police identified the men, who told them they were looking at buying a car.

Had enough: An Oak Grove Avenue resident wanted a male who was living with her removed from the residence, but police told her the only way to force him out is via a court order, Sunday. Since he had established residency, she was told she’d have to go to court and have him evicted. The male said they’d had a disagreement and he planned to leave for the night so things could calm down.

Dropped: Someone lost an orange drawstring bag that contained two crack pipes, Sunday. Police pitched the bag and destroyed the pipes.

Alarming: A woman who is pregnant told police she took a handful of Extra Strength Tylenol after an argument with her boyfriend, Sunday. She was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Quiet time: Police had to tell a woman in a car on Oak Grove Avenue that residents wanted her to turn her music down, Sunday. They said her husband “became upset and complained about the neighbor,” and said he would be reaching out to the prosecutor.
