Blame game: A downtown resident ended up in custody after police found him slumped over the wheel of a car, Tuesday. Police said Billy Biggs, 224, 411 N. Seventh St., was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and possession of drugs after they found him in a vehicle that had been reported stolen a week ago. They said Biggs told them his friend had reported the car stolen "to be petty" because they both were interested romantically in the same person and claimed he'd actually purchased the vehicle but put it in the other man's name because all he had was an Ohio ID. Before taking him into custody on the unauthorized use charge, Biggs allegedly told police he wanted a card from his wallet and when they went to retrieve it for him, they discovered a bag containing a white substance believed to be methamphetamine. Three syringes missing needles also were recovered from the vehicle, with "multiple IDs and debit cards with various subjects names on them" he said he'd found "while digging through various dumpsters."
Double dipping: The Rural King manager said she watched two men wheeling carts through the power tool section and recognized one of them from a previous incident, Tuesday. When they walked past the last point of sale, she alerted other employees, prompting the men to leave the carts behind. She said they fled in a maroon or burgundy SUV.
Weeded out: Police checking a county-owned property in the 2500 block of Cherry Avenue said they could smell burned marijuana from inside the vehicle "and a small amount of smoke coming from the window." Nothing else was found so police made the man call someone to drive him and his female companion home and warned them not to trespass on the property in future.
Charged: A Mingo Junction woman was charged after she allegedly was spotted "rolling up clothes and only scanning the outside tag before bagging them" and trying to leave Wal-Mart without paying for all of them, Tuesday. Ashley D. Nelson, 33, 104 Spring Ave., was charged with misdemeanor theft. Police said the woman told them "She simply forgot to scan a few items" but they told her they'd watched surveillance video. Employees reported 10 items valued at nearly $120 weren't scanned, police said.
Causing problems: A resident in the 400 block of Linden Avenue blamed a disturbance reported at his home on his landlord, Tuesday. He said the landlord "arrived at the residence ... (and) began to argue with him for not moving out." He said his landlord left before police arrived.
He said, she said: A man in the 800 block of Market Street said he had loaned his car to a woman who didn't return it, Tuesday. Police walked outside with him and located his car in the parking lot, but then he changed his story and told them she stole the keys, not the car. They spoke with the woman, who told them she'd given him the keys when she returned from the store and said "this has happened before." She also said he keeps entering her home. They went back to talk to the man and suggested he search for the key again, but report he told them "she was lying and she has done this before." Police suggested he stop letting her use his car.
No place to go: A man who refused to leave Trinity Medical Center East property said he'd recently been released and "wanted to spend the night there, as he is currently homeless," Wednesday. He was upset "and walked away from them (them)" when police suggested other places where he could shelter for the night. He was advised to leave the property.

Aggressive behavior: An overdose was reported in Toronto, Thursday. Deputies said the patient was shoving his mother when they arrived. She said they found him on his bed and initially thought he was sleeping but panicked and called 9-1-1 and started to panic because he has a history of drug abuse. She said once they realized he'd overdosed they pulled him into the shower and sprayed him with cold water, which woke him. They said he started "screaming at everyone and tried getting physical" with the rest of his family and had to be held down by EMTs. Deputies said when they went in the ambulance to check on him he "appeared extremely intoxicated." They said his eyes were bloodshot, his speech was slurred and he was being "extremely aggressive" toward EMTs as well as deputies. He denied being under the influence of anything and "just wanted to be let go," but he was taken to the hospital anyway.
Don't belong: A caller reported seeing a red truck and three individuals at an abandoned house that shouldn't be there, Tuesday. Deputies located the three of them and told them to stay away until the current owners authorize them to be on the property.
Litter bugs: A Rayland resident said someone is dumping trash down the road from their home on township Road 114, Monday.
ATV accident: A juvenile suffered a head injury and was bleeding after an ATV accident on township Road 294, Tuesday. Deputies said the child was flown by medical helicopter to Pittsburgh Children's Hospital. No further information was available.
Update: Deputies were told thieves took between five and 10 bundles of welding cables, along with multiple heavy duty generator extension cords including one cut from a diesel welder generator, in a Monday break-in at the water tower on Wilson Avenue. The items belonged to the paint crew working at the site. The site had also been hit by thieves a couple of weeks ago.
