Causing problems: Residents on state Route 646, Annapolis, are complaining of underage drinking going on at a vacant property, Friday. They’ve said individuals are hosting bonfires and parties there and they’ve witnessed underage drinking. Neighbors also have complained that individuals going to the parties and bonfires are driving through their yard and, because the property doesn’t have water or electricity, are urinating in public view.
Self-invited: Someone is living inside what should be a vacant property in Smithfield, Friday. A bank representative said they’ve sent crews to clean it out and change the locks but discovered someone living there and said the squatter isn’t letting them in the house.
Seeing red: Norfolk Southern police said a crew working in the vicinity of township Road 304 reported seeing a man walk up the tracks and strip down to his red boxers before sitting down by the tracks, Friday. They said he wouldn’t acknowledge them. Deputies were unable to locate him or the crew that filed the complaint.
Long gone: Someone left a red Chevy Cobalt in the middle of township Road 118, Dillonvale, June 12. Deputies said the car was in bad shape with a busted passenger side front wheel. They also reported finding multiple car titles belonging to unknown individuals as well as luggage, broken weed eaters, canned food and various car parts in the back seat. It was towed.
Turmoil: Two men at the Hidden Hollow Campgrounds, Bloomingdale, said a third man had pointed a gun at them, Saturday. A woman said her cooler had been stolen the night before and her grandson confronted the pair, though she didn’t witness it. Other people they spoke with also denied seeing a gun or a confrontation, though they said it’s “always loud” between the two groups.
Steubenville Police
Bad reaction: A woman claimed she was assaulted in the 600 block of North Sixth Street, Sunday. She said another female took her glasses off “and got in her face” and she wanted to pursue charges. Police located the other party, who advised they’d argued “due to (the caller) having relations with her boyfriend” and said the caller took her own glasses off, though she did admit threatening her and kicking them into the road. She was advised to stay away from the caller.
Drugs: Bystanders told police they thought a man might be overdosing near a Lincoln Avenue business, Sunday. The man was by a shed on the side of the property and while he was conscious, police said it was apparent he “was under the influence of narcotics.” Steubenville EMS took him to the hospital for evaluation.
Problem behavior: A Maryland Avenue resident said her 12-year-old granddaughter was arguing with her and afterward, “threw a coffee cup against the front door and broke the cup,” Sunday. The door wasn’t damaged and the girl went to her father’s before police arrived.
No cooperation: A caller complained about a suspicious person in the 400 block of South Fourth Street, Sunday. She told police she wanted the men removed from the area but after police pointed out they were on a public sidewalk she “was uncooperative.” One of them said he’d been involved with the woman at one time and that she had actually invited him over for water. The woman still wouldn’t cooperate with police, though another individual said they’d had an issue with the man in the past but had been denied a protection order. Police told her if the caller wanted their help “she would need to cooperate.”
Booked: Benjamin D. Powell, 32, no fixed address, Steubenville, bench warrants for probation violation (Jefferson County) and child neglect (Columbiana County), Sunday.
Over-indulged: Callers reported a man believed to be intoxicated had fallen to the ground near an old mattress in the alley behind a property in the 500 block of Maxwell Avenue, Sunday. Police said the man admitted he’d “been drinking heavily, as he had consumed multiple beers” that day. Family members came for him and took him home, though police warned him he’d be arrested if they found him wandering the area while intoxicated.
No stopping: Police were told a juvenile crashed his car into a guardrail in the 1700 block of Sinclair Avenue after losing his brakes, Sunday. A friend who was following him home pulled him out of the wrecked car. The witness and the boy’s mother said he’d noticed his brakes were failing a few minutes earlier when the car crashed into some bushes, but he wanted to get the car home because he didn’t want the family member who owned it to be upset.
