Jefferson County Sheriff

Walk off: Eastern Ohio Corrections Center reported an Amsterdam man walked away from the facility, Sunday. Deputies were told Luke Magee, 38, 6021 Brocade Road SE, had climbed on top of a garbage can and "used a sheet to catch something on the roof" so he could climb on the roof, then walked away.

Dangerous misstep: A Jefferson County resident gave her toddler Narcan after he showed signs of having ingested an opioid, Saturday. His mother told deputies she keeps her suboxone in a safe and had just gotten the bottle out when the child told her he'd had an accident. She said she stuck it in her pocket so she could clean up the mess and thinks he managed to get the bottle out of her pocket while she was distracted and wandered away. She told deputies when she found him on the porch she startled him and the pills spilled. She found all but one of them and said the missing pill was on a step, partially dissolved so she stuck her finger in his throat to try and get him to throw up, but about a half-hour later he showed signs of problems so she administered the opioid antagonist and called 911.

Frenzied: A Yorkville woman said a man was "yelling at her and tearing up the house" because he couldn't find a $1,000 lottery ticket and she wanted him to leave, Friday. Deputies said they could hear him in the basement "screaming profanities" at her and she was crying. He told deputies he thought she stole it, but she told them he'd had friends there the night before and figures one of them stole the ticket. She said she doesn't want him behaving like that in front of her children.

Cut off: An Island Creek Township resident who has had an ongoing dispute with a neighbor over their shared property line said he's been cutting out her bushes, June 21. She said she had her property surveyed and told deputies most of her bushes were on her property. The neighbor told them he was removing the bushes because the roots were growing under his garage and the concrete is cracking. He told deputies he thought she moved the property stakes for her own benefit, but they pointed out if she had she would have made sure all her bushes were on her side of the line. He said he was going to keep digging to remove the roots he thinks are damaging his property, and deputies told him to make sure he stays on his own property when he does it.

Booked: Blake Butler, 20, 252 Rhodes St., Dillonvale, warrant for probation violation (Belmont County), Saturday; Allen Brodess, 36, Mingo Junction, domestic violence, Saturday.

Problem children: A woman in the 400 block of South Sixth Street said neighbor children "keep kicking and pounding on her door, disturbing her," leave trash in the yard and are loud "all through the night," Sunday. She said it's been going on for three years. Police said they located both sets of children and spoke to their parents and told them to stay away from the woman's property and keep the noise down. They also were reminded about curfew.

Broken up: An Oregon Avenue resident who parked his car at the curb discovered his windshield had been shattered, Sunday. Police said there was a brick next to it that might have been used to break it. The owner said he had no idea who'd want to damage his vehicle.

Served: A man who'd allegedly had too much to drink ended up in custody after police discovered he had a warrant for his arrest, Saturday. Ricky D. Barnett, 55, 1408 State St., Steubenville, was charged with failure to appear after someone reported he was "intoxicated ... (and) unable to walk without falling to the ground." Police said Barnett was unable to stand, his speech was slurred and his forehead was bleeding so they had him medically cleared so he could be booked into the Jefferson County jail.

Controlling: A Greenwich Avenue resident said her fiance took her phone and purse from her so she wouldn't go out for the night, Sunday. She said he returned the items to her once she called police. She said there had been no physical altercation and the woman left for the night.

Buyer's remorse: A man who'd been working on a car he planned to buy said he left his tools inside, and when he changed his mind about buying it the owner was "upset and hid the car," Friday. He told police he just wants his tools back.

Overdid it: Police were asked to check on the welfare of a man passed out in a vehicle parked in the 2600 block of Sunset Boulevard, Friday. Police said they could smell alcohol on the man and found an open container in his back seat, and said he'd called someone to pick him up.

Unruly: Police were told there was a possible fight on El Villa Way with about 15 people involved, Saturday. When police pulled up, they said a "large group of juveniles fled the area on foot," but several were detained. Police said there was no sign of a fight, and it appeared the kids "were just acting unruly in the street." The kids who were intercepted were taken home and turned over to their parents.

Dog issue: Callers in the 1400 block of Oregon Avenue complained of a dog running loose, Saturday. Police said they found the dog and it "did not appear friendly," and after speaking with neighbors figured out who the owner was. He told them the dog is a guard dog and is definitely not friendly and said he'd been up all night searching for it. Police told him he could be cited if the dog gets loose again and would be responsible should it bite a person or another animal.
