Swarm defused: A couple in the 400 block of South Fifth Street said their verbal disagreement turned into a physical confrontation but neither of them wanted to pursue charges, Sunday. Police said a family member arrived on scene and was speaking with the female "when they became irate," and when police tried to separate them the male relative "accidentally shoved" an officer. They took the man to the ground so they could speak with him, but a crowd began to "swarm around them." The male advised he didn't realize he'd shoved the officer and understood why they forcibly took him to the ground and everything calmed down.
Angry dog: A resident in the 100 block of North Fourth Street told police a man knocked on his door and when he opened it, tried to enter his apartment but backed off when his dog got between them, Sunday. He said the man "was going to assault him" once he was inside the apartment. The other man contacted police an hour later and said the dog bit him, but police said he "was not very keen" to discuss the incident and only wanted to go to the hospital to get the bite treated.
Heave ho: A caller reported a woman operating a vehicle "recklessly while vomiting" in the 2600 block of Sunset Boulevard, Sunday. Police located the vehicle, but by then it was parked and unoccupied outside the owner's residence.
Dirty business: Police said they plan to charge a city resident with felony theft after reviewing video of the woman stealing merchandise from Walmart on three different occasions, Monday. Over the past two weeks police allege the woman plundered more than $2,100 in cleaning supplies from the store.
Rolling over: Residents reported seeing juveniles rolling tires down the road near the intersection of Pittsburgh Street and Wellesley Avenue, Saturday. Police found three tires in the area but the kids had gone. Bystanders said one of the tires "almost hit a woman down the street" but when they talked to her, she said she hadn't seen the culprits.
At odds: A man returned a mountain bike while the Clinton Street resident who owned it was talking to police, Sunday. The owner contacted police again not long after to report the man who'd had the bike was threatening him. They were advised to separate for the night.
Merchandise grab: Police are seeking misdemeanor theft charges against a woman who left Walmart on four occasions in June without paying for nearly $300 in merchandise she'd bagged, Monday. They said video captured images of the woman grabbing stacks of items and only scanning the bottom item and also "straight bagging" others.
Charged: A city resident was taken into custody after he allegedly threw a cup at his wife "and put his hands to her face and grab it," Monday. Police said they charged Brenden Skinner, 49, 447 Spring Ave., Steubenville, with domestic violence.
Hunger buster: A man who allegedly stole five candy bars from the midtown Speedway was taken into custody, Monday. Jeremy Blackburn, 44, 115 E. Steubenville St., Bloomingdale, is facing a theft charge after the manager requested charges be filed, police said.
Charges are being prepared against a city resident who left Walmart on four occasions in June with merchandise he hadn't paid for, Monday. The items totaled about $80.
Bagged: A woman reported her purse was stolen June 30 while she was at Belleview Pool. She said the purse contained her credit cards, which she'd already canceled, along with her license.
Parking problem: A resident in the 1600 block of Oregon Avenue said a guest staying at an Airbnb next door had parked in his driveway, Sunday. Police said the owner of the vehicle was already on scene when they arrived so they didn't have to tow the vehicle.
Told to go: An intoxicated man was asked to leave an El Villa Way residence, Sunday. Police took him home.
Damaged: An Oakmont Avenue resident said juveniles had damaged her car, Sunday. Police said she showed them several scratches and a small dent.
Trash talker: A male who frequently comes to Steubenville to play pick-up basketball in Steubenville said the father of one of his opponents showed up and threatened to "bury him under the basketball court if he talks trash to (the man's) teenaged son again."
Driver cited: A motorist told police she was attempting a left turn into a parking lot on Brady Avenue at Oregon, Sunday when her car was rear-ended by another vehicle. The other driver, identified as Maleah Fletcher, 33, 810 N. Sixth St., Steubenville, said she slammed into the back of the woman's car after she "abruptly braked." Fletcher was cited for assured clear distance ahead, police said.
Pole struck: A woman at the wheel of a Dodge Journey slammed into a pole in the 1300 block of Tweed Avenue, causing heavy front end damage, Saturday. Police said the woman "faded in and out" while speaking with them and when she got out of the car she had to be "held ...in place as she was unable to stand." She told them she had been drinking before the accident. Due to her condition she was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Booked: Kevin Brockman, 44, 427 S. Fifth St., Steubenville, bench warrant out of Municipal Court, Sunday.
