Deputies said adults who took the car keys and secured the kids until they got there said the girl told them her mother wouldn’t get up, but when they talked with the girl she told them she took the van “because it was raining.” They said the girl’s mother was ill and visibly upset when she discovered she’d taken her van. She said her daughter had been walking to the bus stop to get her younger sibling after school and told them she’d hide the car keys from now on.
