Kicking the can: A homeless woman was “causing disturbances throughout the downtown area,” Sunday. The initial report was that she was walking in front of Family Dollar on North Fifth Street and knocked over a garbage can, then proceeded to the 100 block of North Sixth Street where she “approached a tent that was set up (and) began punching and kicking (it).” She then walked into an adjacent parking lot “and began walking in between vehicles, touching the doors and trunks.” Police said they advised the woman of the complaints and when they asked her about her “odd behavior,” she told them she didn’t need any help and “was conducting her own investigations” which is why she was wandering through the downtown.
Reign of terror: A resident in the 1500 block of Maryland Avenue said a juvenile he’s had ongoing problems with “began cursing and giving him the middle finger” when he saw him walking around his vehicle and asked him to leave, Sunday.
Recurring theme: Two women in the 1400 block of Maryland Avenue were arguing, Sunday. One of the women claimed the other was harassing her children.
Brouhau: A caller reported juveniles and a homeowner arguing in the 600 block of Linden Avenue, Sunday. One of the juveniles said they were riding bikes, and someone wrecked in the homeowner’s yard and insisted the homeowner “ran outside and began shooting at them with an Orbi gun” and “tried to steal a bike.” The homeowners said their daughter and a couple friends were playing in the back yard when the juveniles began harassing them through the fence. Her mother said when she went outside to ask the kids to leave they all off and one of them dropped their bike in the roadway so she asked her partner to get it out of the street and as he moved it, the kids “ran back up the street and started yelling at (him) for stealing the bike.” An argument ensued and she said the kids “continued yelling” at them, so her partner went into the house and fired the Orbi gun into the air to try to get them to leave. He said he never pointed it at any of the kids or fired at them. One of the kids claimed he was hit by the Orbi but police said they didn’t see any markings on him.
Fishy business: A Harding Avenue resident reported damage said her rental vehicle was damaged overnight, Sunday. Police said there were scrapes to the rims on both passenger side tires, the corner of the front bumper was partially detached and the cap on the right-side mirror was missing, but police said the missing piece of the mirror was not in the vicinity of the parked car and there were zip ties holding the bumper up that the woman said she hadn’t put there. She said when she rented the vehicle it did not have any of the damage and that she’d checked with her husband who sometimes drives it but he denied being in a crash or knowing about the damage.
Shoving match: A man in the 300 block of North Seventh Street wanted a female removed from the residence, Sunday. The female said he pushed her, so she shoved the coffee table into his legs in self-defense. She said she didn’t want to pursue charges and was waiting for a family member to pick her up. The male said she’d come to his place to watch football but they began arguing and he wanted her to go. He wants to pursue charges, but police told the two of them a report would be filed and reviewed for possible charges.
Dog bite: A woman said a dog bit her while she was walking in the 300 block of South Fifth Street and wanted the owner charged, Sunday. Police spoke with the dog’s owner, who said she heard it barking but didn’t realize it bit anyone. Phyllis J. Geiger, 69, 326 S. Fifth St., Steubenville, was cited for dog at large.
Role reversal: A Kendall Avenue resident flagged police down to report her adult daughter had taken her phone and refused to give it back, Sunday. Police said the daughter gave it to them and they returned it.
