Steubenville Police
Cutting the apron strings: A Steubenville woman evicted her son from a residence he said he’s rented on a month-to-month basis for about three years, Sunday. He said he’s in the process of moving to outside Ohio but returns to the rental once a week and noticed there was no mail in his box for the last two weeks, then discovered his mail and some of his possession in trash bags dumped in his can. He said his mother also changed the locks and the garage opener code, had his electric service shut off and gave him a “generic” eviction notice. His mother said the eviction was approved by the court and she’d left it on the door herself. She said her son hasn’t been paying any bills, but denied tossing his mail in the trash. She said she’d put some of her son’s things in a storage unit but in a walk-through with officers, he was able to find some things that had been overlooked. She gave him a key to the storage unit and a general description of where it was located.
Bad driving: The driver of a white box truck went over a small retaining wall in the 100 block of South Forest Avenue, gunned his motor to get off it and ended up hitting a parked car, Monday. A witness was able to give police the plate number.
Fired up: Someone in the 700 block of Oakmont Avenue reported hearing two gunshots, Monday. Police checked the area but didn’t find anything amiss.
Problem causer: A woman who’s been causing disturbances and kicking trash cans over throughout the downtown was caught on a property in the 400 block of Washington Street where she isn’t welcome, Monday. Police advised her not to return or she would be arrested.
Fraud: An Adams Street resident told police she’s received several credit cards and debit cards in her maiden name in the mail, Monday. She said she’d already contacted her bank to make sure there’d been no fraudulent activity. Police shredded the cards for her.
Pilfered: A Crabbe Boulevard resident said the Troy Polamalu jersey she was given Friday was missing, Monday. She said she reviewed security footage and “heard a voice in her residence that she does not recognize as well as a loud cough that she was not familiar with.” She said she’d allowed a male friend to stay at her place for several days and “he continues to allow people into her residence.” She said he was there when she was given the jersey and figured he was “either involved in the theft or took it himself.” He denied any involvement and said no one was in the residence that evening other than himself and the homeowner.

Realistic: A letter carrier delivering mail found a gun inside a mailbox on Hallock Avenue, Mingo Junction, Friday. Deputies said that it turned out to be a toy.
In crisis: A caller reported a woman staying with her boyfriend at his grandmother’s house in Mingo Junction said he was “currently destroying her house … and has been for the last several hours,” Sunday. The caller said the woman was currently in the bathroom trying to destroy the toilet. The woman told police she’s been prescribed medication but isn’t taking it due to the cost. She was taken to the hospital.
Property wars: A Steubenville-area resident claimed he was almost run over by his neighbor, Monday. The neighbor told deputies it wasn’t even close and said they’ve had an ongoing dispute over the property line, and he’s threatened her before.
Helping himself: A Bloomingdale resident reported seeing a suspicious male rummaging through vehicles, Friday. Deputies said the caller said the man and looked homeless. They were told he’d walked into a store and gave them a woman’s ID and when they located him, he had a California ID.
Breaking bad: An Adena woman said she’d been arguing with her boyfriend and wanted him to leave the residence, Friday. There was some damage to her car she said happened when he pinned her down after she hit him. Dispatchers said they could hear yelling in the background when she called for assistance. The male didn’t want to speak with deputies, but he texted her while she was talking with them and they agreed she would pack his things up and leave them on the porch and he would bring a family member with him to collect them.
Theft: Someone cut a padlock on a storage cabinet on a tree-cutting truck parked in Tiltonsville and stole the contents, Friday. The operator said he arrived for work and saw the lock on the ground, He said 200 feet of work line ropes, climbing line rope, and a couple of pole saws were among the items missing.
Fishy business: A caller reported finding a Ford Ranger on a private property in Bloomingdale and believe it was connected to a boat theft, Friday. The caller said the boat looked like the one that had been taken but with different paint and seats installed, so he and some other workers blocked them in to wait for deputies. Deputies said one of the three men in the truck told them he’d found the pond after searching for fishing spots on an app and had been there before and was waved onto the property. He said the three of them had been fishing and decided to take the boat out, but the workers confronted them. He said he’d used the boat the last time he went there to fish, too.
Stolen: A business owner reported a chain saw was stolen from a truck parked at a property where they’d been hired to cut trees down in Rayland, Sunday.
