Steubenville Police

Face slap: A clerk at the downtown Speedway said she was assaulted by a customer, Friday. Police said she told them a male who regular gets his gas there was upset because he thought she’d “mistakenly activated the wrong fuel pump,” but she said he gave her the wrong number. She said he began arguing with her and even threatened to “beat her … one day” and refused to leave when she told him to. She said he continued to threaten her, and she finally told him to “feel free to strike her, not believing that he actually would” but he did, slapping her and knocking her glasses off. Police said the side of her face was a little red and she wants to pursue charges.

Cited, charged: A disturbance at a Ravine Street location turned out to be a disagreement between two family members after a man took his father’s car without his permission and returned it with heavy front-end damage, Friday. The father complained that his son was holding a hammer and screwdriver during the argument, but the son told police it was because he was trying to fix the car. Police said Joshua J. Fayak, 42, ended up being cited for failure to control and leaving the scene of an accident after he allegedly told police he’d hit a dumpster near the YMCA. He claimed he’d reported it to an employee before leaving. But police said when they checked with the YMCA staff, they were told no one there was aware of an accident. They also said they found a recycling dumpster shoved into a fence with vehicle debris next to it. After determining the fence belongs to Catholic Central High School, police said they were able to observe security footage allegedly showing the vehicle traveling “at a high rate of speed …pushing the dumpster into the fence” before the driver fled the area. Fayak also was charged with misdemeanor theft/unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, police said.

Hungry: A caller reported seeing a man rooting through garbage cans in the 1500 block of Oregon Avenue, Saturday. Police said a woman told them she’d been rooting through dumpsters in search of food. She put the items she’d found back in the cans and left the area

Overdid it: An intoxicated male was found in a yard in the 400 block of Linduff Avenue, Sunday. Police said the man’s friend said they were walking him home but “they were having difficulty due to him having too much to drink.” Steubenville EMS took the man to the hospital.

Nicked: A Union Avenue resident said she’d been cut by a knife and needed an ambulance, Saturday. When they arrived at the residence police said the woman told them she’d accidentally cut herself with a small pocketknife. They said the woman had a small laceration on her wrist, but it was not bleeding. When Steubenville firefighters arrived at the location she refused assistance.

Find-a-phone: A woman told police her phone had been stolen from a bar in Weirton and she’d traced it to an Oakmont Avenue location, Saturday. She told police she’d never been to that part of town and did not know anyone living there. Police said the Oakmont Avenue resident told them she’d “asked him to hold her phone while she went to the bathroom (but) never returned,” so he brought it home. He gave the phone to police and they returned it to her.

Magnetic attraction: A North Fourth Street resident said another woman is threatening to assault her because of her ex-boyfriend, Saturday. She showed police texts they’d exchanged “arguing back and forth” over the ex. She said the other woman had also phoned her “and that is when (she) made the threats.”

Troublesome: A woman well known to police was reported to be causing a disturbance on Logan Avenue, but when police arrived, she’d already gone, Saturday.

Keyed up: A Pine Street resident told police her girlfriend was upset that she hadn’t answered the phone and slugged her when she found her on the elevator at a building in the 100 block of North Fourth Street, Saturday. She said she was already on the elevator when her friend boarded “and struck her in the face while holding keys in her hand and threw her to the ground.” Police said she had a scratch under her eye and some bruising and advised them she wants to pursue charges.

Recovered: A vehicle was left in the middle of Mears at South streets, Saturday. Police said the Jeff Liberty was left in the middle of the street and had a flat tire, but upon closer examination they realized two windows had been broken and subsequently learned it had been reported stolen.

Volatile: A city resident said a man known to her went past an Adams Street residence and threatened to kill her, Friday. The male told police the woman had contacted him through a family member’s phone. Police reminded the pair there is a no contact order in place and told them to avoid all contact.

Booked: Wynter Wilson, 29, 3144 Weir Ave., Weirton, warrant for menacing, driving

Summoned: Dustin Hehmann, 39, 1319 Oregon Ave., Steubenville, driving under suspension and warrant for failure to appear, Saturday.

Cited: Kathryn M. Wherry, 19, 181 Pershing Ave., Steubenville, stop sign violation after a two-car collision Saturday at University Boulevard and Franciscan Way West; Clarence McGee, 20, 260 Lawson Ave., Steubenville, expired registration.
