All in the family: A Union Avenue resident told police his girlfriend’s mother and sister were trying to force their way into his home, Saturday. Both women were still on the property when police arrived and the younger woman was bleeding “as a result of punching a hole through the window of (his) front door.” Police said the younger woman, a juvenile, had a minor injury. The homeowner said the two women had been living with friends for over a month and showed police proof the lease the two women had prior to them moving out was no longer valid. The couple didn’t want to pursue charges but they wanted the two women to stay away from their property.
Conned: A Franciscan University student fell for a scam, Saturday. The student told police he got an e-mail a couple weeks ago from someone claiming a student had passed away and they were selling their musical equipment. He said he texted the number listed in the e-mail and ended up sending them $180 via Apple Pay. He never received the merchandise and was unable to reach the person who “sold” them to him.
Options limited: A homeless encampment in the 600 block of North Fifth Street is going to be dismantled, Friday. The property recently changed hands and the new owners told police they didn’t give anyone permission to be on it. Police said there were two large tents and a vehicle on cinder blocks on the parcel, and the individuals who put them there requested a day or two “to have all of their (belongings) and vehicle” removed.
Conflicted: A Maryland Avenue resident who’s had problems in the past with a juvenile said the kid was “cursing at him for no apparent reason,” Friday. The following day, the juvenile and his mother contacted police, saying the older man “came outside and began causing a disturbance” when the boy was riding his bicycle up and down the sidewalk. The juvenile said the man chased him back toward his house and admitted they started yelling at one another. The older man said the juvenile “was riding his bike and began yelling and cussing at (him).”
Love lost: A North Seventh Street resident claimed his fiancé tried to hit him with a car, Saturday. He said when he got to the building, his fiancé was arguing with someone else and his fiancé demanded his engagement ring back. He refused and was leaning in the car window when his fiancé started to pull away and the car tire struck his foot. He wasn’t interested in filing charges.
Booked: Cynthia Stanko, 41, 1522 Maryland Ave, Steubenville, child endangerment, Friday; Chelsea L. Metz, 31, no fixed address, failure to appear (Municipal Court), Friday.
