Seeing’s believing: A city resident told police she’s convinced someone is spying on her, Sunday. She said she thinks there are hidden cameras in her home and that someone is following her, her boyfriend and her ex-husband, but when she showed them where she thought they were hidden police said they found nothing. She said she was going to contact Ohio State Highway Patrol, and police said they couldn’t stop her.

Questionable behavior: Two juveniles addressing employees at a business in the mall using derogatory terms were banned from the property, Sunday. Employees said the kids had refused to leave until they knew police were on the way.

Retreat: Police were asked to check on a Sinclair Avenue family, Sunday. Police said the residents told them there’d been a family argument about a missing chainsaw that had been in the kitchen but was later found outside, hidden behind a stump. A juvenile was suspected and argued with his father. All were advised to “get along and separate, if necessary” but police had to return an hour later. This time, the parents said they were arguing and the male said he was leaving for the night to avoid further problems. Police gave him a ride.

Booked: Police were asked to get a woman out of the basement of a property in the 2300 block of Sunset Boulevard, but police instead ended up taking her into custody on a warrant, Sunday. Police said Amy Whittekind, 45, no address listed, was held without bond in the Jefferson County jail on the warrant, out of Belmont County for failure to appear. Whittekind told police when they arrived her husband “hit her in the face while stealing her candy.”

Out of control: A Mingo Junction woman said her boyfriend woke her up and started arguing with her, and when it escalated, he “grabbed a handgun he keeps in the house and fired one shot in her general direction,” Friday. She said he started drinking after she asked him if he’d be upset if she let her ex stay in a property she owns because his home had been destroyed in a fire, and after she went to bed he woke her up, “yelling at her to get out of the house.” She said she went into the spare room and went back to sleep but he “started yelling at her again” and grabbed her things. When she asked him to give them back, she claims he told her to “get out or I’ll shoot you” and said as she left she heard a “boom” from his gun. Deputies said the boyfriend denied firing the gun, insisting it never left the drawer where he keeps it, but they found a casing on the bedroom floor and bullet holes in the ventilation and a gas furnace.

Potty mouth: A Richmond couple said they were walking to the pizza shop when a person known to them threw a rock at the male and directed a slur at his wife, Sunday. Deputies checked the area but report the person was gone when they arrived.

Got it wrong: A Rayland woman said a man she does not know is “continuously calling her and family members (and) threatening to assault them and take their vehicles,” Sunday. She said the an claims she “scammed him and she owes him,” but she said she’s never sold him anything.

Obstacle course: A resident living along state Route 213 said someone “ran into a few fire hydrants, road signs and then through his fence on his property, and guard rail posts on a pool hall property, March 8. He told deputies he’s concerned the hydrants might be leaking because of the damage.

Deep divisions: A Yorkville woman reported someone threw a gallon of milk at her house, hitting her front door, Saturday. She told deputies she thinks her house was targeted because she’s friends with the mayor “and all the issues they have been having in the community and at town hall meetings.”

Hit and miss: A Wintersville resident reported her roommates were in a physical altercation, Saturday. When dispatchers called back, they said a male answered and told them all was well, but the female took the phone and reported again that they were arguing. The dispatcher tried to get more information from her but said she “yelled the cops were coming and hung up again.” When deputies got there, the woman told them one of the parties involved was her son and the other was a friend of his who’d lived with them for 15 years, but the two of them had been drinking “and got into an argument about doing the dishes.” The two men admitted they’d argued over the dishes and that it became physical, but neither offered up details or wanted to pursue charges. The two of them shook hands and the female caller told deputies she was okay with both of them staying in the house.

Conflicted: A Jefferson County resident told deputies her husband was trying to get his hands on her phone when he accidentally hit a jewelry box she was holding in the other and conked her in the forehead, Saturday. Deputies said the woman did have a large cut on her forehead that was bleeding a little but refused medical treatment and didn’t want to pursue charges, though she does want him to stay away. She said they’d been arguing because she caught him cheating on her and said she’s in the process of divorcing him. When deputies located her husband, he confirmed they’d argued over allegations he’d been unfaithful but said she “began pushing him in the back and hit him several times in the back of the head” and had some markings on the back of his head. He denied tussling with his wife over the cell phone, though he conceded she was holding it, and said he had no idea how she would have injured her head. Later deputies learned he’d never left the property.

Outer limits: A Steubenville woman told dispatchers she and her ex-husband are in danger, Sunday. She said strange things have been happening around her, including someone following her and putting listening devices in her home and her Wi-Fi mysteriously shut off and claimed her ex “is hiding in the area from these suspicious individuals who have been following them.” She said she called the sheriff’s department because no one else has helped her. Deputies noted the woman was “speaking at a rapid rate and claiming that … bizarre things have been happening around her” and suspected she might be experiencing a mental episode “or experiencing a side effect from possible street drugs.” Deputies contacted police, who told them they’d sent an officer to the woman’s residence “more than once already but would send another” and after an earlier interaction concluded she was not a threat to herself or others.

Last call: Three people were refusing to leave a Mingo Junction bar, Saturday. An employee told police one of the men was “upset about the time change and saying she does not need to close.” When deputies arrived, they were told the three left after another party got involved.

Booked: Edward Oxley, 36, Adena, domestic violence, Sunday; John M. Cassi, 64, Mingo Junction, using weapons while intoxicated, felonious assault and domestic violence, Friday.
