Police reports

Steubenville Police

Agitated: Callers complained of a woman causing problems during a T-ball game at North End ballfield, Friday. Police said she was “obviously upset and was unable to keep herself calm” and began relating some altercation that occurred between she and another subject,” but she strayed off subject very quickly “and began making statements which made no sense.” After trying unsuccessfully to calm her down, police escorted her off the property “so as to keep young children from hearing her remarks.” After they got her off on her own police said she “seemingly calmed herself down,” but about a half-hour later police were called to North Seventh Street and Franklin Avenue because she was causing another disturbance. This time, police said they found her “sitting on the sidewalk rummaging through her bags and talking to herself.” Bystanders said she’d been “flipping off passing vehicles and using a (derogatory) term.” She was told to gather her things and move along, and warned her if they got another call she could be cited or arrested.

Acting out: A downtown resident reported her teenage daughter got physical with her after she confronted her about skipping school, Friday. She said she was at work when she found out she’d been a no-show, and when she got home, she told her daughter she wasn’t to go outside. She said her daughter was upset and “attempted to push her way past her” in order to go see her friends and when she pushed her away she said the juvenile “allegedly attempted to strike (her) with a closed fist.” She said they had a brief altercation but told police it was for disciplinary reasons. Police said the daughter had no visible injuries and admitted her mother hadn’t hurt her, so they told her she needs to do what she’s told and further issues could result in her or a family member being taken into custody.

Open house: Police were asked to assist with an eviction in the 1500 block of Maryland Avenue, Thursday. They said an animal had been left inside the residence but the tenant “has no animals and is incarcerated.” Neighbors report seeing “numerous people enter the residence and leave since the (tenant) has been in jail.”

Recurring problem: Another disturbance was reported at a complex in the 3000 block of Johnson Road, Thursday. Upon arrival police said they could hear a female “talking loudly and aggressively,” and when they located her, she denied causing a disturbance. She said she was “at the end of the hallway not doing anything and another resident came out and began yelling at her.” The resident in the apartment she’d pointed to said he was sitting in his living room watching TV when he heard the woman in the hallway “yelling and cursing and screaming at his neighbor across the hall.” He said his neighbor is in her 90s and “does not need to be harassed” by the woman, so he came outside and told her to go back in her apartment and be quiet. He was advised to follow up with management, while she was warned if they keep getting called to the building because of her “causing disturbance,” she could be evicted.

Home alone: Someone reported a couple fighting outside a shed on Lincoln Avenue, Saturday. Police located the shed and spoke with a man who advised he lives in it “and nobody was fighting.” He opened the door so police could see no one was inside.

Bothered: A Rosslyn Boulevard man claims he’s being harassed by neighbors, Friday. He told police one of them “ran him off the roadway and threatened him” and that he tried to film it on his phone but “there was a female wearing a black dress who he was unable to film due to the incident taking place at night.” He also recounted various other past incidents. Police told him there’s not much they can do about incidents that happened some time ago and weren’t reported.

Threats: A Richmond resident having his car worked on downtown said he saw a man who “began fighting with an employee” and when he walked over to try and break it up, the unknown male him if he “came up to him he would end his life.” The customer said he didn’t see any weapons and the unknown male left.

Identity theft: A city resident said someone in Kansas tried to buy a car with a fake driver’s license with his information, Friday. He said an auto dealer in Arc City, Kan., noticed the altered picture and reported the theft. Police advised him to freeze his credit.

Money bagged: A Market Street resident said she sat $1,000 in cash on her table and someone stole it, Thursday. She said a couple days later a school contacted her about a “student there (that) had a large sum of money.” Police said she’s recovered about $450 of her missing money.

Thieves foiled: Someone cut the fence at the American Electric Power substation on Wells Street, Saturday. An employee said they got a notification from their alarm company and footage showed two people entering the property, but they were gone when he arrived.

Took off: Callers reported an active fight in the 800 block of North Sixth Avenue but when police arrived bystanders said the two women who’d been arguing already had gone their separate ways, Friday. Police were told “nothing physical had taken place and nobody knew who the two involved were.”

Wrong place: Police were advised of a disturbance in the 1500 block of Maryland Avenue, Wednesday. They said they didn’t hear any commotion, but a resident told police a woman had been knocking on the wrong door, so they’d argued.

Gone: A woman who forgot to grab her cell phone off the counter after paying for items she’d purchased at the Marathon station on Third Street told police it was gone when she returned 15 minutes later, Friday.

Kids: Juveniles riding dirt bikes in Lawson Avenue at Adams Street were told they cannot ride them the road, Thursday.

Reported: A caller reported hearing shots fired from the Maryland Avenue area, Friday. Police checked the area but didn’t find anything to substantiate the report.

Booked: Giorne Manson, 29, 1434 Ridge Ave. Steubenville, warrant for theft (Steubenville Municipal Court), Friday. Manson also was cited for driving under suspension; Also, Linda C. Lyons, 42, 3267 Sunset Blvd., Apt. 6, Steubenville, probation violation, Thursday.
