Problems: A disturbance involving a group of juveniles was reported on Ohio Street at Maryland Avenue, Thursday. Police said there were no juveniles in sight when they got to the scene, but a bystander advised there was a group of juveniles in the alley between Ridge and Maryland preparing to fight. One of the kids told police the fight didn’t happen because he’d broken it up and all involved left the area.

Sobered up: A man who checked himself out of the Trinity Medical Center West refused to leave the property, Thursday. Police were told he was intoxicated when he was brought to the hospital the night before and when he woke up, signed himself out but wouldn’t leave. They said his phone had broken so police gave him a ride to the City Rescue Mission, where staff allowed him to make some calls and wait for his ride.

Grab ‘n go: The manager at the midtown Speedway told police a female wearing a purple dress helped herself to nachos from the hot bar, a pack of doughnuts and a tall boy beer before fleeing without paying, Thursday.

Dogged: A caller complained that a dog had been left inside a home with no water while the resident worked, Thursday. Police spoke with the tenant who said he did work in the residence, but said he is home evenings and brings water in for the dog, but will make arrangements to take the dog to a friend’s house because he might be moving.

Shamed: A vape shop owner told police a couple came into his store and he recognized them from a robbery that occurred a month earlier, Thursday. He said he confronted them and showed them the security footage from the theft, “after (which) they refunded him the total amount of the items stolen.”

Fishy business: A motorist who claimed a forklift hit him at Lowe’s ended up being cited for driving when he shouldn’t have been, Friday. Police said Richard Windsor was cited for driving without a license after they learned his driving privileges had been restricted by a Pennsylvania judge. Windsor told police he was traveling through the Lowe’s lot when the forklift drove into the side of his vehicle, but the forklift operator said he’d backed up after lifting a pallet but his caution lights and horn automatically engaged to alert drivers. He said when he began to turn the forklift he noticed a vehicle “passing through extremely close to the forklift” and stopped but the car didn’t and hit the forklift. The owner of the vehicle Windsor was operating said she wasn’t in it when the collision occurred and she was unaware he was not permitted to be operating a motor vehicle, prompting police to explain to her the consequences of wrongfully entrusting a vehicle to an unlicensed driver. Police said there was no damage to the forklift but the vehicle had scratches and dents on the driver’s side. Store security footage will be reviewed.

Fracas: Two men were shoving each other in Kroger, Friday. Police said one of the men told them he’d put his phone on the counter at a Labelle business and the other grabbed it and put it in the EcoATM so he could get cash for it and said he found the man with his empty phone case. Both admitted they’d shoved each other but it hadn’t escalated. A female who was with them said the man with the phone case had offered to pay her to return the phone at the EcoATM since he didn’t have his ID, and when the cash came out handed her $17 of the $137 he’d received. The owner said he wouldn’t pursue charges if the phone was returned, and EcoATMs customer service helped police retrieve it and advised the company might pursue charges. Kroger also advised that after they review the surveillance footage, the man who had caused the problem may be banned.

Oddity: A man with a flashlight was seen inside a bobcat at General Rental, Friday. The caller was concerned someone was trying to steal the vehicle since there were personal vehicles on the property. They searched the area and both buildings but didn’t find anything amiss.

Complaining: A North Fourth Street resident complained that a neighbor’s dog “had been left out in the rain all day and that she had seen the animal on numerous occasions out in bad weather,” Friday. Police said the dog was outside with other animals, but could reach a dog box in the backyard for shelter and had access to water. The owner said he feeds it twice a day but doesn’t leave its food outside because of the other animals inside the fence with her, and police said the animals “appeared to be well nourished and fed” and well-trained.
