Steubenville Police

One booked: Police report two women were slumped over in a vehicle in a parking lot in the 2100 block of Sunset Boulevard, Saturday. They said they woke them up and claimed both “seemed to be under the influence of some type of narcotic” and their speech “was slow and very lethargic.” One of the women “appeared to be drifting in and out of consciousness” as they spoke with her, police said, alleging that when she got out of the car they saw several stamp bags on the seat where she’d been sitting. Police said the driver denied knowing there were drugs in her car or whether her passenger took any, but Steubenville EMS said the passenger did have a positive reaction when she was given Narcan. No contraband was found anywhere else in the vehicle and the driver was released to a friend’s care. Police reported confiscating 30 stamp bags believed to contain a fentanyl compound and said the passenger, identified as Vendela Pirozak, 32, St. Clairsville, was charged with possession of drugs.

Troubled: Police spotted a woman on a bench in the 1500 block of Sunset Boulevard “leaning over” as if she was passing out, Saturday. She said she was just tired and waiting on a friend to pick her up but eventually admitted she had taken a Xanax a few hours earlier but didn’t want medical attention. Two hours later police were asked to remove the woman from the property. This time she was behind the building. Police told her she was not wanted there so she gathered her belongings and left.

Not wanted: Police located a woman who’d set herself up under the Washington Street overpass, Saturday. She was told she couldn’t stay there and gathered her belongings and left.

Problem behavior: Juveniles riding bikes caused problems, Saturday. Kids were riding in a parking lot and playing a loud radio, disrupting a wedding that was in progress. Two juveniles riding in the roadway at Hollywood Boulevard near Pico Street were “stopping cars,” police said.

Street rider: A caller reported a juvenile riding a dirt bike in the roadway at Brady Avenue and University Boulevard, Saturday. The child was found at Maryland and McDowell avenues and was told to take the bike home. He was told he cannot ride it in the streets.

It’s a scam: A Market Street resident said he was alerted to a virus on his computer and when he called “Microsoft” tech support, he was told he “was being investigated for cybercrimes and advised “if he did not cooperate in the investigations he would be arrested,” Saturday. He said the individual advised him to buy $4,300 in Apple gift cards and he would be reimbursed once the issue was resolved. He said he purchased the gift cards but contacted the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and was told it was likely a scam and he should shut down his cards and contact the fraud division at his bank.

Fast cars: A resident complained that a dark, two-tone Mustang was speeding on North Fifth Street, Saturday. The complainant told police something needs to be done about the vehicle’s speed.

Brazen: An Oregon Avenue resident said someone came on her porch and stole her security camera, Saturday.

Time to leave: A Richmond area resident reported she feared going inside her home because her husband had a gun, Friday. She said they’d been at a bar where he’d downed “Jacks and Coke and was heavily intoxicated” and on the way home he’d stopped the car in a deserted area and when she refused, “he came around the side of the car and tried to pull her out by her hair.” She said she fended him off with a can of hairspray that she threatened to spray in his eyes and eventually figured out “he’d lost a large sum of money gambling and blamed her.” When they got home, she stayed in her car because he was still angry with her because he told her he threatened her. When he came back outside looking for her, she said she hid on the side of their house, so he locked her out. She said when she banged on the door to get in, she saw him with the shotgun and told police he’s been violent with her before, including once several months ago when he shoved her to the ground in a parking lot and she broke her arm.
