Police reports

Steubenville Police

Lost power: A Greenwich Avenue resident said his neighbor called him to report a vehicle had struck the front of his home, Monday. Police located a woman who advised she was northbound on Greenwich when her vehicle “stopped going forward.” She said she tried to coast back to her residence and attempted to back it into her driveway but it stopped, and when she “got out to ask her children to assist in pushing it completely into the driveway” it started moving backward down the hill and struck a house before clipping a parked car.

Throwing stones: A man in the 200 block of N. 7th Street told police another man had been “throwing rocks at him and attempted to strike him,” Monday. He wasn’t injured and refused medical attention. Police located the other party, who advised them he “was not throwing rocks and did not attempt to strike (the caller).” He admitted he’d been drinking but declined a ride home.

Camp grounds: Police were asked to remove people living on the riverfront in a tent near the county jail without permission, Monday. Police located a female in the tent and told her they had the rest of the day to move. She said they’d pack up when her two companions returned. Police located one of them near the Friendship Room and told him in person, but couldn’t locate the other man.

Rock hard: Police found a woman sleeping under the train bridge in the 600 block of Washington Street, Monday. They woke her up and told her she couldn’t stay there.

No way to live: A man was located under a tarp at the intersection of 3rd and Market streets, Monday. He told police he was waiting for a bus to take him elsewhere, but they told him he can’t sleep on the sidewalk and would have to gather his belongings and move on.

Backfired: Police investigating a parking complaint on Ridge Avenue discovered another vehicle with an expired registration sticker, Monday. Police said two individuals showed up after they’d already called the tow truck to ask what the problem was, and when they told them they were addressing parking complaints in the area and noticed an expired registration on the vehicle they said the two asked police to give them a break and not tow it. Police said they told them since it was expired more than 30 days they had no choice. The female said she was being a “good Samaritan” when she called in the original parking complaint so she deserved a break, but police told her “the laws apply to everyone on the roadway equally.” After about 15 minutes police said the owners “accepted the fact that it was being towed.” Police said two other vehicles past the 30-day threshold were also towed.

Screamers: Two women got in a yelling match after the child of one of them was rude with the other, Monday. Police said the child had been disrespectful to a woman who started yelling at him, so his mother stepped in and began yelling at the other woman. The mother and son were asked to leave the area before any more problems erupted.

Ex troubles: A disturbance was reported in the 2600 block of Sunset Boulevard, Monday. Police said a male there told them he and his ex-girlfriend had been arguing but she’d left before they arrived. They spoke with her by phone and she assured police she was fine but wanted to leave the residence to cool off.

Injured: Someone called 9-1-1 asking for help but hung up before they could get more information, Monday. Police said when they arrived they didn’t hear anyone yelling for help or any type of disturbance, but as they got closer to a house in the 400 block of S. 6th Street they heard an individual yelling. Police said they located an injured person inside that residence. He said an item he special-ordered had been left on his porch but was gone when he went to retrieve it.

Missing details: A motorist complained several juveniles “were yelling and cussing at him” and when he told them they didn’t need to be talking like that an adult male “punched him in the face” outside a gas station, Monday. Police were able to identify the kids involved, who told police they’d “yelled at him to slow down.”

Theft: Two women fled Kroger in a gold-colored Chevrolet Equinox with a large bag of merchandise they hadn’t paid for, Monday.

Crank call: A caller reported three juveniles “walking around with a bag” in the vicinity of Cleveland Avenue and Wilshire Boulevard, Monday. Police said the caller suspects the kids were “carrying the bag to steal yard decorations” and were in the Wilshire area, but police were unable to locate them. Police spoke with several residents, all of whom advised they “didn’t (see) any juveniles with a bag nor anyone taking yard decorations.”

Booked: Vanessa A. Leek, 45, 106 Locust St., Mingo Junction, possession of drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and a bench warrant for probation violation, Monday. Police allege they found fentanyl where Leek had been sitting in a vehicle, as well as multiple un-used glass crack pipes.
