Steubenville Police

Gunfire: Multiple callers reported hearing shots fired in the vicinity of Oakmont and Rosswell avenues, Sunday. Police said they located a “scene” in the 700 block. Information was gathered and the scene turned over to the city’s detective division.

Misbehaving: Several individuals were spotted on the roof of the Franciscan University Fieldhouse, Tuesday. Campus security advised they got on the roof from the backside of the building. City police deployed a drone and determined they were no longer there, campus security said they were seen “(getting) off the roof and running to the east side of the building.”

Taking aim: A man told police someone in a vehicle “attempted to strike him in his wheelchair,” Friday. He said the man was driving a silver sedan.

Running out of options: Police were told a woman was camping in the restroom at North End field again, Monday. They said when they checked the property, they discovered the woman “had items spread throughout the floor of the restrooms and (it) appeared she had been staying (there) for days.” She was told she can’t live in bathroom and needed to gather her belongings and leave the property.

Stuck: Two people were summoned into court after they failed to move their vehicle from a business lot in the 400 block of S. 3rd Street within the 48-hour window the business owner had granted them, Monday. Police said Chance LaRue, 31, and Ashley Nelson, 34, no fixed address, told police the car they were waiting for a friend to arrive to tow the car they were living in to another location. They said the couple had been told last week they had two days to vacate the property and not return. The two were charged with criminal trespass.

Little late: Someone reported two men arguing in the 1300 block of Oak Grove Ave., Monday. Police said the Oak Grove man complained the other one several years ago had left three minibikes there for him to fix but he never purchased the parts. He said that man never came back to retrieve them until he loaded them on a trailer to haul them away and claimed that when he told them he would have to pay a $100 storage fee to get them back they scuffled. He said the man shoved him, breaking his pinky finger, before fleeing the scene with two of the minibikes, and told police he wants to pursue charges. Police said the man trying to reclaim the bikes told them the Oak Grove man was going to recycle them “so he only wanted to take them bac.” He claimed the Oak Grove man pushed him first “and he only pushed him away” and said he “did not know” how the man’s finger was broken, police said. Police said someone showed them a video of the altercation but it was “hard to see who started the physical altercation” on the person’s phone and had her email it to them. Both men were told the information would be forwarded to the prosecutor.

Circling the block: Police spotted a vehicle making “several” passes through the Rosswell Avenue area, Sunday. They allege the vehicle’s registration was expired and when the car was pulled over, the occupants became “argumentative” with them while the driver kept reaching for the gear shift and when they asked him to exit the vehicle, he refused. The driver, Zotique Douglas, 18, 232 Bryden Rd., Steubenville, was charged with obstructing official business and cited for driving on a suspended license and expired plates and one of his passengers, Journey C. Ray-Turner, 18, 2949 Elm St., Weirton, was charged with falsification, police said.

Checking out: A man needed help getting a family member out of a house he owned in Hillary Square, Monday. He said the family member had been properly evicted but was refusing to leave and produced the court documents to prove it. Police spoke with the family member, who gathered his things and left the property. About six hours later they were notified the woman “was taking a long time in the restroom,” so they made contact with her and advised she could not linger. Police said she left without issue.

In and out: A downtown resident was upset because family members who actually own the residence “keep coming and going from (it),” Friday. Police told him since they own it, they can come and go as they like and told the owners if they don’t like what he’s doing with the property they would need to evict him.

Breaking in: Someone tried to steal money from a locked room at a Sunset Boulevard business in the early morning hours, Monday. The would-be thief was able to get into the locked room but couldn’t get into the change box “due to it being made of such thick steel,” he said.

Brazen: A woman fled the Shoe Department with a pair of $65 Nike slippers she hadn’t paid for, Friday. Employees said the woman got to the register and told them she forgot her wallet and went out to her vehicle, then left. The manager videoed the vehicle, an older black Chevy Malibu, and told police as they were leaving the woman rolled her window down and claimed she’d put the shoes back on the shelf but when employees checked, they “only located an empty shoe box.”

Fifteen car batteries in a recycling pile were stolen from a shop in the 200 block of N. 3rd St., Monday. The shop owner said the batteries are no longer usable and were piled in front of the shop so he could recycle them. He wants to pursue charges.

Robbed, damaged: A resident in the 700 block of Kendall Avenue told police someone entered his home and stole a Vizio and a TCL television and spray painted a vehicle parked in his driveway, Monday. He said security footage showed three men pulling up in an SUV.

Plans changed: Police spotted a female sitting in a car parked at Pico Park, early Saturday. She told them she was waiting on friends to meet her there, but police told her the park closes at dark “and she needed to leave the area.”

Charged: Cassidy Delong-Ruckman, 27, 103 Eleanor St., Steubenville, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of drugs and tampering with evidence, Saturday. Ruckman allegedly had a crack pipe and a wadded up paper towel containing a white crystal substance in her sock, police said.

Loading up: A thief fled Kroger with a shopping cart full of meat products, Friday. Employees manning the gas pumps said he was wearing a white hat, green shirt and blue pants.

Seeing is believing: A man in the 800 block of N. 6th Street was reportedly “yelling at people in the street,” Monday. Police located the male but said they didn’t see him causing problems and he had no outstanding warrants, so he was free to go.

Falling out: An officer on patrol spotted a man falling down on Ohio Street, Sunday. Police said he was unable to stand up, his speech was slurred and he reeked of alcohol. The man requested an ambulance, telling police he hurt his hip when he fell.

Late nights: Two juveniles caught out after curfew on two successive nights were returned to their other at a 5th Street location, Sunday. Police told their mother if they’re caught out again they would not get a warning.
