Wonder why: A man who wanted his vehicle serviced at a shop in town told employees he'd "been denied service before and if they did it again, then they would regret it," Friday. A supervisor then advised the man he needed to leave the property "because of past incidents and not to return." After he left, police were told they're in the process of banning him permanently from the property "due to past confrontations with staff."
Charged: Police said they spotted a man who fit the description and was wearing the same clothes as a man who allegedly walked away from Walmart last week with a bicycle he hadn't paid for, Friday. Police said Randy G. Bake, 51, no fixed address, initially denied stealing the bike but after looking at still photos of the suspect admitted "he was the one in the pictures (but) had given the bike" away. Bake was charged with misdemeanor theft, police said.
Over and out: An Eve Drive resident said her ex-girlfriend showed up at her place complaining because she and her boyfriend were arguing, Friday. She said her ex was "drunk (and) causing problems" and she wanted her to leave. Police gave the woman a ride downtown.
Lock out: A caller reported a disturbance in the 900 block of Carnegie Street, Friday. A male there told police he'd allowed a female to stay at his place but she'd "damaged his door trying to get in." He did not want to pursue charges against her but said he does not want her to return.
Charged: A woman was charged with obstruction after an officer had to chase her down to serve her with an outstanding warrant, Friday. Police said Mary I. Eddy, 36, no current address, initially tried to convince them she was just helping the person they were looking for move, but after confirming her description, the officer circled back to talk with her and she reportedly "began running in between houses." Eddy was booked into jail without bond on the warrant as well as the obstruction charge.
Problematic: Police were asked to remove a homeless man who staked a claim to a stairwell in the 100 block of North Fifth Street, Friday. When they told him he needed to leave, he gathered his things, but police had to remove him from a North Seventh Street location and then again from a North Sixth Street location because no beds were available. Police suggested other locations where he might find help and he left.
Park and walk: Two women in Tri-State Plaza parking lot were "arguing over parking too close to each other's vehicles," Friday. Police said one of them left, the other moved her vehicle.
Damaged: A Maryland Avenue property owner said his neighbor's tree fell on his fence during the storm earlier this week and now the neighbor is refusing to pay to have it removed, Friday, Police told him it's a civil issue and he might need to contact an attorney. Police said a tree from the next yard was laying across the man's backyard, damaging the fence on both sides of the yard.
Angry ex: A North Fifth Street resident said his vehicle was vandalized, Friday. Police said his windshield was shattered and two tires flattened. He suspects his ex was involved, but he declined to pursue charges.
Sibling rivalry: A caller complained of a disturbance between two sisters in the 1400 block of Maryland Avenue, Saturday. A woman at the residence told police one of her daughters had already left and the other was getting ready to go, so their help was not needed.
Lock it or lose it: A man in the 400 block of North Sixth Street said he left his apartment unlocked while he did his laundry and when he returned, more than $300 was missing, Saturday.
Hit-skipped: A man who was denied entry into a building in the 100 block of North Fourth Street was upset when he backed out of his parking space and hit a parked car before fleeing the scene, Saturday.
Booked: Michael A. Mills, 42, 142 N. Sixth St., Steubenville, contempt of court, Saturday. Mills also was issued a summons for possession of drug paraphernalia, and cited for driving under suspension and improper display of plates.
Booked: Sheena M. Gibson, 43, Indiana, Pa., held without bond for failure to appear, Friday; William Dean Starkey, 53, Steubenville, failure to appear, Friday.
Served: Heather L. Carpenter, 49, 1405 Main St., Smithfield, bench warrant, Friday.
Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to owners/occupants of properties at 211 Opal Blvd., 523 N. Fourth St., 529 N. Fourth St., 719 N. Fourth Street, 804 N. Fourth Street, all for high grass/weeds.
