Breaking up is hard to do: Police said an Adams Street couple in the process of filing for divorce didn’t grasp the concept of marital property, Wednesday. The wife complained that her soon-to-be ex-husband “was upset and had damaged windows in his vehicle” which she wanted him to stop doing. He told police he’s upset because she “took his items from their safe and would not return them.” Police suggested they stay away from each other and explained to them that marital property is shared property, but had to return to the residence several hours later because they were still arguing about the rings. Police said the male was convinced his estranged wife had his rings, but she denied it, while she said he was “threatening to take her rings from her fingers.” Police explained the concept of marital property to the couple again but said “neither appeared to grasp the concept” and again recommended one of them leaving the property or at least “physically separate” themselves to keep the peace but neither of them was willing to do that. Police advised them to avoid each other if they cannot get along, at which point the male said he was “going to tear … their vehicle (apart) and then went inside and locked the door.”
Party of one: Residents in the 1500 block of Maryland Avenue said an intoxicated female was “walking down the street, verbally accosting citizens,” Wednesday. Police located the woman, who was indeed intoxicated. They said she was “muttering nonsense” and when they advised her to go inside for the evening and leave her neighbors alone, she “apologized and complied.”
Lane change: A tractor trailer and a truck collided in the eastbound lane of state Route 7 at University Boulevard, Wednesday. The drivers told police the tractor-trailer was in the inner turning lane and merged into the outer turning lane, striking the side of the other truck. Minor damage was reported.
Panhandling: Cleveland Avenue residents said an older woman was knocking on doors in the 2500 block asking for money, Wednesday. Police didn’t locate her.
Loaded up: Employees at Kroger told police a juvenile tried to leave the store without paying for $55 worth of makeup, Wednesday. The girl allegedly concealed the items in her purse and backpack, then went into the restroom and removed the packaging. Employees recovered the discarded packaging in the restroom and matched it to items found in her purse, adding she’d clogged the toilet by trying to flush some of it away. Police turned the girl over to her mother, who was advised of the cost of the stolen items and told her daughter is banned from the property.
Summons issued: Lachelle K. Miller, 32, 9582 county Highway 53, Bergholz, theft, Wednesday. Employees at Walmart allege Miller grabbed multiples of the same item but only scanned one of them and also used the handheld scanner “and scanned a few items before placing several items in the bag,” police said. Employees also claimed they found two smaller pocket purses concealed in a makeup bag, but police said Miller insisted “she believed she scanned the similar items that she stacked twice and that the theft was unintentional.” She also advised the two smaller pocket purses “must have already been inside the makeup bag” because she didn’t put them there, police said.
Fill up: A caller reported seeing people “dumping residential trash into the city sidewalk can” at State Street and Maxwell Avenue, Wednesday. Police are investigating.
Summoned: Walmart employees told police a woman tried to leave their store with merchandise she hadn’t paid for, Wednesday. Barbara H. Andress, 47, 126 Holly Ave., Mingo Junction was cited for misdemeanor theft, police said.
Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to owners/occupants of properties at 1408 Oregon Ave., 1409 Oregon Ave., 1658 Oregon Ave., and 1659 Oregon Ave., all for high grass/weeds.
