Ignorance is bliss: A woman in the 400 block of Union Avenue said she was assaulted by her husband, Sunday. She said she was standing in her doorway and wanted to know who she was texting, and when she told him she said he “grabbed her by the shirt and … punched her in the mouth,” before grabbing his things and leaving the residence. Police said her lip was bleeding, but she refused medical attention and told police she didn’t want to file charges. Police told her they’d be filing the charges themselves.
Angry man: A Sinclair Avenue resident said her husband came to the residence unannounced and started arguing, Sunday. When she told him to leave because she wasn’t going to let him in, she said he “began striking the door in an attempt to gain entry” and eventually damaged both the frame and deadbolt before he left. She said he’s been staying at an apartment downtown for the past month. She didn’t want to pursue charges, so police told her how to obtain a protection order.
Bad place: A caller reported seeing “someone lying in the roadway,” Monday. Police spoke with the woman, who said everything was fine and she was “just talking to her friend.” They told her she shouldn’t be sitting on the roadway.
Done with him: A woman in the 400 block of South Fifth Street wanted a male removed from her property, Sunday. Police spoke to both of them, then advised him to leave the residence and not return.
Booked: Maurice Watkins, 38, Garfield Heights, Ohio, adult parole authority (probation violation, Cuyahoga County), obstructing official business and failure to comply, Monday. Watkins allegedly cut through a parking lot, ran through a red light and a stop sign before exiting the vehicle and trying to get into a downtown club, fleeing on foot to avoid police. Police said Watkins was taken into custody on Fifth Street at South Street. Watkins also was cited for driving under suspension and failure to obey a traffic control device.

Violent: A woman said her husband fired a pellet gun at her while she was sitting in her car in front of their residence, June 7. She told deputies they were getting ready to go somewhere when they started arguing, and as she was trying to leave, he walked up to the car with the pellet gun and started threatening her. The woman said she told her husband he wasn’t getting in the car with the pellet gun and said he then pointed it at her head and said he was going to shoot her with it, and when she started backing up, he fired it, shattering the back window. She said she stopped the car, grabbed the pellet gun and threw it out of the car, at which point he told her to go “before he messed her up.” She said when she got to the end of the driveway she started crying and said he told her again he was “going to bash her face in if she did not drive,” then “punched her in the face and threw coffee at her” when she did. When she stopped the car in a neighbor’s driveway and jumped out, she said he “threatened to kill her if he called the cops” before driving away himself. While deputies were speaking with her, they said the husband returned and told them he and his wife had argued but insisted it didn’t become physical. He said his wife wasn’t in the car, and he thought the safety was on when he pressed the trigger, shattering a side window, and said the rear window had been damaged earlier in the day while he was handling scrap. He also denied pointing the pellet gun at his wife or threatening her. Deputies spotted a recent laceration on his wife’s arm and report she wasn’t sure how she got it, but it could be from the breaking glass. He is facing charges, deputies said.
Busy bodies: An area resident said she and her boyfriend had been arguing so she went to a girlfriend’s house and called an ex to “come over to have an affair,” June 7. She said she went back to the boyfriend’s house to tell him what she’d done but then her girlfriend’s father “started telling her boyfriend he wanted to fight him.” She told deputies the older man looks on her like a daughter, they’ve always been close and he doesn’t like her boyfriend “due to their arguments.” After showing them threatening texts from the older man, the boyfriend said he “thinks it’s weird a 40-year-old man wants to fight a 19-year-old” and wants to pursue charges as well as a restraining order.
Assaulted: A woman said she was sucker punched by another woman while she and her boyfriend were off-roading with friends at a field off township Road 380 in Island Creek township, June 7. She said her assailant’s younger brother walked over and told her his sister was still upset with her, so she decided to leave to avoid causing a problem and was trying to put her seatbelt on when the other woman attacked her. She said her arm was caught in the seatbelt so she couldn’t defend herself, and her friends had to intervene. Deputies said she had red marks around her neck.
In denial: Deputies were told a woman was heard screaming at a residence in Pottery Addition, June 6. They were told the couple residing at the location is constantly fighting and the female had been heard inside screaming, “You’re going to kill me.” Deputies said as they arrived, they saw a man running into the woods but no one came to the door. When they finally made contact with two women in the property, they said all was well and no help was needed.
Bottled up: A caller said a “highly intoxicated” man came to his home on county Road 17, Rayland, and accused him of breaking into his son’s garage, Sunday. He said the man also threatened him and his family. He didn’t want to pursue charges but did ask them to check on the man “due to his very intoxicated state.”
Light sleeper: A Dillonvale man using a private number reported a house in the 300 block of Liberty Street was “playing very loud music” and people were “outside making a lot of noise” and complained “some people work in the morning,” Sunday. Deputies said no one was making noise, and no one was outside when they checked the area.
Nuisance: A Wellsburg man said his son is receiving “repeated messages and phone calls” from someone with an Ohio number after a girl both knew contacted him, Sunday.
Lost control: A Mingo Junction woman said someone accessed her daughter’s Venmo account and locked her out of it, Sunday. Mom suspected her daughter’s ex but had no proof, and deputies pointed out scammers are everywhere now.
