Lands in trouble: A Mingo Junction man is facing charges after a sheriff’s deputy on patrol allegedly spotted him talking to a wanted man in his garage, July 14. Police said Thomas “Bird” Myers, 61, 497 Montwell Drive, Mingo Junction was charged with receiving stolen property and obstruction after they allegedly found a motorcycle reportedly stolen from Steubenville on his property and a cell phone that belonged to a man wanted for receiving stolen property and possessing criminal tools. Myers initially denied anyone had been at the property, but after pointing out they’d seen him with the man they’ve been looking for he told them it was actually his cousin and later said they’d seen a cousin of the man they’d been looking for, deputies said. A bystander confirmed that their elusive suspect had been seen working on the motorcycle earlier in the day.
Trashed the house: The owner of a house on state Route 43, Richmond, said his 12-year tenant had stopped paying her rent and was smoking in the residence and had dogs on the property, neither of which is allowed, July 13. He said he evicted her and when she moved out he discovered the house “was in deplorable condition with garbage pilled all around the house and inside, filling two large dumpsters and more.” He said there also was dog feces in the home which he said “was completely destroyed to the point that nobody could live there until the damages were repaired.”
Charged: A Tiltonsville man was taken into custody after he allegedly called multiple times, screaming at dispatchers and deputies that “if someone does not get down here there was going to be violence” but refusing to answer questions they’d asked of him, July 13. Deputies said Roosevelt Simmons, 60, 314 Grandview Ave., Apt. 217, Tiltonsville, was charged with disorderly conduct and obstructing official business. They allege Simmons was “very irate” on the phone and kept hanging up when they asked him for more information, and said when they pulled up in the lot allege he “began screaming and causing a public disturbance” and refused to follow instructions. Neighbors said he was upset because someone parked in his assigned spot, but deputies explained to them that while they understand the frustrations of parking there, it’s an issue that needs to be addressed with building management.
Road scare: A resident living along township Road 381, Steubenville, told deputies someone in a white truck forced her car off the road, July 13. She said she struck a fence but was able to get home.
Steubenville Police
Great escape: Employees at Kroger said they were notified someone rode off on a mobility scooter but police figured out it belonged to Wal-Mart, Tuesday. When they called the store they said management “was unaware the scooter was gone” and couldn’t come pick it up.
Potty mouth: The manager of a property in the 100 block of North Fourth Street said a man is harassing her tenants “and cussing at them from the sidewalk on Fourth Street, Tuesday. She said he’s already been trespassed from the property “and she does not know how else to keep (him) from coming into contact with tenants.” She said when he’s around there are typically tenants who will “engage in disputes” with him but none of them will call police for fear of retaliation. Police told her the only other thing she could do would be to look into a no contact order.
Denied it: Police were told of an alleged assault in the 1300 block of Pennsylvania Avenue but both parties denied it, Tuesday. They said “they could hear yelling inside the residence” when they arrived at the location, but the female involved insisted nothing physical had occurred and had no obvious injuries despite police having already been told there was physical abuse taking place inside the property. She said she didn’t need assistance. The male also told police nothing physical had taken place and he was leaving the residence.
Wouldn’t go: A Linden Avenue resident said two people who were in her gazebo were refusing to leave, Wednesday. Just one of them, a male, was still there when police arrived and told him to leave.
Not welcome: Police were told a woman was causing a disturbance in the 100 block of North Fourth Street, Tuesday. They caught up to her at Fourth and Market streets and told her to stay away from the property.
“Kids being kids”: A fight was reported in a cul-de-sac in the 400 block of South Fifth Street, Tuesday. Police said no one was actively fighting when they pulled up but there were multiple kids and adults in the area. One parent advised it was “just a bunch of kids who were being kids” but didn’t say anything about a fight. Police said a few juveniles seemed upset and were arguing “and the parents were attempting to separate them.” The group was advised to keep the noise down if they stayed outside “due to being loud and disorderly while attempting to gain control of the juveniles.” Everyone separated for the night, police said.
