Dysfunctional: An Adena man said his daughter’s boyfriend was refusing to leave his property, July 13. The property belongs to a family member who is in care and the person who has power of attorney let the caller and his daughter stay in the property but told deputies it’s a decision she now regrets because the caller and his daughter are “the problem” because they don’t get along. The daughter said she and her faither “fight pretty often,” but believes he is the root cause, claiming he and his friends “use, and possibly sell, narcotics out of the home.” She said her father never cleans up after himself, and said one of them kicked one of her dogs in the eye, causing permanent damage, while his dog bit two people. She also showed deputies “a picture of a dead groundhog her dad placed on the hood of her vehicle.” The caller said the latest argument started after he told his daughter’s boyfriend they had to replace the wood they’d burned in a bonfire “because he was going to use that specific wood to build a picnic table,” deputies said. He also thinks his daughter and her friends “stole change from his safe, she never takes care of her dogs and is gone all day, sometimes days at a time,” and complained she is unemployed and does not pay for anything, she just parties all day and leaves her dogs at the house for him and his friend … to take care of.” He also said she has fictitious plates on her car and no insurance. Deputies said all involved “spent a significant amount of time complaining to (them) about how much they all can’t stand each other and want to kick the other(s) out.” Once they determined no crime had occurred deputies told them they’d have to resolve the dispute in court but to keep the situation from escalating, told the daughter and her boyfriend and take the dogs and stay elsewhere for the rest of the evening. The family member with POA was advised she would have to use the eviction process if she wanted one or all of them out of the house since both claim residency.

Ouch: An Empire man told deputies his neighbor had threatened to harm him with a knife, July 12. He said they’d dated for three years but split up about two years ago. Deputies said Lacey M. Giglio, 43, 182 Nessly Ave., Empire was charged with aggravated menacing. Court records indicate she entered a plea of no contest in Toronto county court and will spend 36 months on supervised probation in lieu of a 180-day jail sentence, which was suspended. She also must pay a $75 fine.

Stranger things: A Millhorn Lane (Steubenville) resident reported “an emu … bedded down in his yard,” July 12. He said he didn’t know what to do and requested assistance, but while they were on the phone with him he said the emu “walked into the woods but stayed near the tree line.” He told deputies he put water and bread out for it. ODNR told deputies they can’t help because emus are “not an indigenous species.”

Fisticuffs: Wintersville Police requested assistance with “a large party with (people) fighting” in the 100 block of Tera Manor, July 13. They said “about 40 people were (there) and many are running.” The crowd was dispersed, they said.

Let the good times roll: A suspicious vehicle was reported in the vicinity of the campground at Jefferson Lake State Park, July 12. Deputies were told the vehicle was at a campground on township Road 219, The caller said the vehicle was “blaring music and just sitting there for the past couple of hours.” Deputies located the vehicle the caller described and said the occupants “were having a good time since they had no kids.” The couple agreed to clear out for the night, deputies said.

Nipped in the bud: Mingo Junction resident told deputies her sister was sheltering with them after a domestic violence incident at her own home, but they’d just found her husband in their residence, July 12. She said he fled after her own husband caught him coming up the steps after he broke in through their basement. They said he fled their property.

Dotting his Ts: A man who was selling a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spider convertible that had been sitting in his yard for some time due to it not being driveable said a man who called himself “Bernie” and his girlfriend had offered to buy it, July 12. He said he gave them a receipt for the $500 cash they gave him and agreed to meet up on his next day off so he could sign over the title, which was still in the glove box, but when he tries to call the number the man gave him he keeps getting a message that suggests they’d blocked his number. He told deputies he wanted a report on file in case “any crimes were committed while the vehicle was still in his name.” He said the vehicle was not registered and the plate had been removed.

Suspicious: A Kings Drive (Steubenville) resident said he got a package in the mail “with some type of chemical inside from overseas,” July 11. He said he got it out of his mailbox but put it back so deputies could check it out. An officer inspected the package and advised it “was a silicone marijuana bowl and was (taken) to be destroyed.”

Absent mom: A juvenile home alone at a Maplewood Drive location was afraid someone was in the basement, Tuesday. Deputies checked the property and home and didn’t find anyone. The girl said mom had left to spend the night with her fiance in Weirton, but when they caught up to mom by phone, she told them she “hasn’t seen her fiance all weekend” and had only been gone for a few hours. Deputies said while that might be true, the child was “apparently scared to be (home alone)” and needed supervision.

Unnerved: An 11-year-old Toronto boy said he was home alone and needed a deputy, Tuesday. He said a stranger had been knocking on the front door. Deputies checked the property but didn’t find anyone but spoke with mom who said she was already on her way home.

Vengeful man: A Richmond woman told deputies her ex “showed up at her house and cut the cord to her microwave and window air conditioner,” Wednesday. She said he’d purchased the items for her, so she wasn’t going to pursue charges for that and said he “left in and didn’t stick around to argue with her. Not long after she heard “someone messing around the house” and was concerned it was him. Deputies said nothing else appeared to have been disturbed.

Looked odd: A caller reported seeing a suspicious man at the Rayland rest stop standing by a gold car with its alarm going off and lights flashing, Wednesday. Deputies said there was no obvious damage to the vehicle, and the doors and windows were secured, but the exterior lights were still flashing.
