Brooke County Sheriff
Charged: Caron M. Eastman, 45, Warren, Ohio, malicious assault, Monday, following an altercation in which another woman was cut with a knife.
Charged: Aaron T. Scipio, 22, 108 Kirtley Strasse, Wellsburg, driving while suspended for driving under the influence, Monday.
Steubenville Police
Vehicle located: A vehicle believed involved in a shots fired incident around 1 a.m. Friday in the 1300 block of Sinclair Avenue last week was recovered the following day in Wheeling. Wheeling police had located the vehicle parked at the Sheetz on National Road, and city police said upon arriving there, they spoke with the driver “and advised her that the vehicle was being towed pursuant to a search warrant” issued in connection with the incident.
Arrested: Police said they arrested a West Virginia man who allegedly punched a nurse trying to change his bedding at his request, Monday. Mavin T. Campbell, 51, Charleston, was charged with assault. Police said the nurse told them Campbell complained about his bedding, so she was changing his sheets but when she asked him to roll over, “he made a closed fist and punched her in the face.” They said there was bruising and swelling around her eye.
Skipped the details: A man in the 900 block of Sherman Avenue told police he was being harassed by neighbors who “let their dog loose to attack him,” Monday. Police said he wasn’t making much sense, so they talked to the other parties involved, who said she and her friends walked outside to talk with the man’s girlfriend but he “was intoxicated and wanted (her) to come home so he walked over and began causing a disturbance.” The neighbor said when he commented “about grabbing a firearm” she let “her dog loose to protect herself.”
Driver fled: A caller reported seeing a vehicle sitting in the middle of the 2000 block of Eve Drive and a man walking away from it, Tuesday. Police said the vehicle was facing westbound and had heavy front and driver side damage, and the windshield was damaged as if someone had struck it and had a “strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from (it).” A neighbor said he heard “a loud noise” outside and saw the vehicle in the roadway and the driver getting out and walking away. Police said two trees in someone’s front yard appeared to have been hit.
Charged: A man was taken into custody after a disturbance in the 400 block of South Fifth Street, Saturday. Police said Joseph Walenciej, 43, no fixed address, was booked into the county jail on charges of assault, resisting arrest and obstructing official business after he allegedly fled on food when they arrived.
Conversation starter: An argument erupted after a woman allegedly followed a couple into a Mall Drive business and asked the man, “what he did to upset” his girlfriend, Monday. The woman told police she followed them in to talk and “made a joke asking what he did to upset her” and the boyfriend “became very aggressive and started yelling” and attempted to slap a phone out of her hand. She admitted spitting on his vehicle but said it never went beyond that. The girlfriend said the woman followed them all the way to their car and threatened to hit her boyfriend and spit on their car The boyfriend claimed she’d tried to spit on him “but he was able to move out of the way.” His girlfriend said she was pregnant and claimed the woman had shoved her in the store, knocking items over, but a clerk said he “observed items being knocked off a display shelf but did not see any of the individuals make contact with one another.”
Asked to go: A Valley View Drive resident told police his adult grandson “became belligerent and was yelling and threatened to fight him” after he told him to move out “due to (him) refusing to get a job or do any chores around the house,” Monday. Grandpa told police the situation had since calmed down, and his grandson was packing his things to leave.
Thought wrong: A caller reported a disturbance in the 700 block of Market Street, Monday. A woman told police she’d argued with a man who stole her lawn mower, “but she got (it) back, and everything was fine.” The man said he “thought it was junk because it was next to the dumpsters.”
Pedestrian clipped: A woman said she was struck by a car while she was in the parking lot at the mall, Monday. She told police the vehicle struck her leg and hip and said the driver stopped, then left the area. She said she was not injured.
Charged: Shawn Whittekind, 47, Steubenville, warrant for failure to appear (Belmont County), Monday.
Cited: Tammy D. Lyles, 65, 601 Two Ridge Road, Wintersville, failure to display headlights, Monday. Three vehicles with expired registrations that were parked in the 300 block of Lawson Avenue also were towed and the owners ticketed.
Jefferson County Sheriff
Bad decision: A nurse stopped in Wintersville to check on a woman sitting in a wheelchair beside a road “looking confused,” Monday. The nurse said she learned the woman had left a nursing home and was trying to get to a friend’s home, but beyond that she “wasn’t cooperating too much.” Deputies spoke with the staff who said the woman had signed herself out after an argument with a nurse.
No trouble: Deputies investigated complaints that somebody was “burning brush and shining a spotlight inside” a neighbor’s home along County Road 39, Monday. She has filed multiple complaints about the neighbors and complained she thinks they “are escalating the situation,” but deputies said the residence and brush burn were “a good distance apart” and after speaking the neighbor, determined they were doing a controlled burn with “no spotlights and no trouble.”
Lingering: A Mingo Junction resident said the father of her children was supposed to leave her home two days before but is refusing to leave, Monday. She said when she confronted him, he “became aggressive and started pounding the kitchen table,” then went into the kids’ room and started throwing things. She said he didn’t break anything and he didn’t get physical with her or the kids, but she doesn’t want him to return to her home. After she called 9-1-1 he left on foot.
Booked: Teresa M. Paidousis, 43, 1883 County Road 23, Bloomingdale, domestic violence, July 17. Deputies said Paidousis was “highly intoxicated” and had been allegedly fighting with a family member, hitting him with a bowl and drawing blood.
