Steubenville Police

No return: A man staying at Beacon House was cited after he allegedly flipped a table over in front of police, then wouldn’t stop “cussing and yelling” because his charger cord was stolen, Friday. Police said they couldn’t convince Christopher Little, 40, no fixed address, to calm down, even after they told him they’d “watch the video and attempt to get his cord back” and claim he continued to “scream and cuss outside, causing a disturbance.” Little told them he was leaving but when they told him the staff didn’t want him to return they report he “turned around and began to get in (an officer’s) face, “screaming and not leaving.” Little was cited for disorderly conduct, police said.

Nurses struck: Two more nurses, one of them pregnant, told police they want to pursue charges after a patient in the Progressive Care Unit struck them, Friday. Police said the male “was uncooperative and denied any wrongdoing,” but told them he was upset the two nurses “woke him up for some kind of treatment.” One of the nurses said they’ve dealt with the man “pretty regularly” but this is the first time he actually struck anyone. The pregnant nurse was “extremely upset” and said the patient had “swung his hand back toward her in an attempt to get her away from his hospital bed and actually struck her … in the middle of her stomach.”

Needs help: A man in mental distress told police he was off his medication and asked to go to the hospital, then told police he was there to kill a woman. He was transported to the hospital.

Man down: A cab driver told police she was in the 3100 block of Portland Boulevard when she saw a man lying on the ground, Saturday. Police said the man was alert and responsive and did not appear to be under the influence of drugs, but they sent him to the hospital, anyway, for evaluation.

Booked: A city resident who’d been warned to stop yelling earlier in the evening ended up in police custody after police had to talk to him about it a second time at the intersection of Sixth and Market streets, Saturday. Police allege Zakee A. Young, 25, 180 N. Fourth St., Apt. 308, Steubenville, was waving his arms above his head and yelling in the early morning hours and when they told him why they’d stopped, became “immediately passive-aggressive as well as argumentative and stated multiple times that he could do that.” Young allegedly “took a step toward (an officer) in an aggressive manner” while behaving confrontationally. They reported he smelled of alcohol and resisted when they tried to take him into custody, and claimed that once at the jail he told them they’d “messed with the wrong one and we were going to die.” Young was booked into the Jefferson County jail on charges of intoxication/disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, retaliation, counterfeit controlled substance and use of sidewalk, Saturday, police said.

Bothersome: A caller said a woman at a Crestline Drive residence was intoxicated and causing a disturbance, Friday. A man said he’d just returned from work and found the woman, “intoxicated and yelling” and was “stumbling and falling down.” She was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Piped in: The real estate agent responsible for a property in the 800 block of Lawson Avenue that’s in closing said the new owners were in the process of turning utilities on and when the water department arrived to turn the water on they found copper pipes had been stolen, Sunday. Police said when they checked the residence, they noted multiple locations where the pipes had been cut and stolen.

Over and done: Someone reported residents in the 900 block of Sheffield Avenue were causing a disturbance, Friday. Police spoke with the couple, who advised they’d been arguing but it had ended and all was well.

Booked: Shawn M. Oxley, 43, no fixed address, Steubenville, bench warrant, Friday.

Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to owners/occupants of properties at 4030 Sunset Blvd., garbage piled in the back of a silver pickup with no visible registration, a “large pile of junk including construction materials, wood, toilets, tires and building insulation” at rear of property; and 544 Woodland Ave., a washer and dryer in the driveway, along with “tires and other junk piled along the side of the residence.” Also, 712 Kendall Ave., high grass/weeds.

Jefferson County Sheriff

Dog run: The dog warden said he was trying to “capture a dog after it attacked and killed someone’s cat” but when he asked its owner to get the dog he said the man “fled into the house and will not answer the door,” Tuesday. Deputies were unable to get the man to open the door, either, so the dog warden advised he would file charges,

Needed removed: A Yorkville man requested assistance after his girlfriend arrived home intoxicated, Thursday. Police said she agreed to go to a family member’s home.
