Hooligans: A woman at a mall store wanted to fight after another woman checking out said something about her children behaving badly, Monday. The woman checking out said there was “a group of children acting wild,” with one of them “older and on a handicap scooter, driving it recklessly” and almost hitting her. She said something, and the woman with the juveniles “began yelling and causing a scene before stating they could go outside and fight.” The loud woman took the kids and left before police arrived.
Squatters: A caller reported individuals staying in an abandoned building in the 200 block of North Fifth Street, Monday. Police found an open door and said they could “see through the whole length of the building.” They found one man “in a room on the first floor with a mattress and candles burning” and another room equipped with two beds “filled with personal items,” but nobody was present. Police said Niklas Cain, 40, no fixed address, was issued a summons for criminal trespass and advised to leave the property immediately.
Go fish: Police had to go to the riverbank behind the sheriff’s office to deal with people “arguing over a fishing spot,” Monday. Police said it was part of the sewer treatment plant property, so they told all of them to leave.

Safety first: A man was riding a bicycle with no light on the front in the 500 block of North Sixth Street in the early morning hours, Tuesday. Police said they initiated a traffic stop but he turned his head to ask why he was being stopped and kept peddling. They said he eventually stopped near Clinton Street and told him why he was being stopped. He initially refused to identify himself but eventually produced his identification, and after making sure he had no outstanding warrants they warned him for the violation.
