She slept, he walked: A caller reported seeing a small child “walking around unattended while only wearing a diaper” in the 1400 block of Maryland Avenue, Sunday. An officer was on his way to look for the child was flagged down in the 1400 block of Euclid by a mother who said she couldn’t find her 3-year-old son. While they were checking the area a resident located the boy in the 1300 block of Ridge Avenue and returned him to his residence. Mom said she’d been sleeping “for an unknown amount of time” and when she woke up the child had left the residence.
Hot and bothered: Police were asked to check on a male a caller believed was “under the influence of narcotics and possibly overdosing” in a plaza in the 4200 block of Mall Drive, Sunday. When they found him the man told them “he was hot from being in the sun” and denied needing medical attention. They said he was “awake and alert” during the interaction and showed no signs of impairment.
Distressed: Someone reported seeing a man who “appeared to be impaired walking around” the 800 block of North Fifth Street, Sunday. Police located the man near Garfield Elementary and report he “did not know where he was and was unable to communicate properly,” was gritting his teeth so loudly “it could be heard several feet away and he was fidgeting.” He was transported to Trinity Medical Center West for evaluation.
Booted: A disturbance in the 200 block of Pico Street involved a man and his girlfriend trying to kick his cousin out of his house, Sunday. The cousin told police she’d been told to leave and now her cousin and his girlfriend were making it “difficult for her to gather her belongings.” When she told police she’d lived there since July, they told her she could go into the residence to get her things. They told her cousin she’d established residency and had a right to go in the home but he’d already piled her things outside. The cousin still wanted to get her cats, so police waited while she retrieved them and grabbed her belongings.
One booked, one cited: A driver was cited and his passenger was taken into custody after a traffic stop on state Route 7 at Washington Street, Sunday. Police said Kayla N. Hochstrasser, 408 Walden Ave., Tiltonsville, was initially charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after a used glass pipe was allegedly found in her purse and after being warned that failing to disclose the presence of additional contraband before booking would result in additional charges, they said she retrieved 2.6 grams of a substance believed to be crack cocaine from her underwear. The driver, Michael J. Flinn, 46, 68 Green Acre Lane, Mingo Junction, was cited for driving under suspension and loud exhaust.
Two charged: Employees at Wal-Mart reported two individuals fled the store in a blue Cobalt with an undisclosed amount of merchandise that hadn’t been paid for, Saturday. A vehicle matching that description was spotted on Lincoln Avenue, and a resident told police they’d seen it turn “into an abandoned business on Sinclair Avenue and park in the woods.” Police said Joel Greer 33, 732 N. Seventh St., Steubenville, was located first and charged with contempt of court (allegedly violating a no contact order.) Also taken into custody was Donald Shook, 40, 439 Henry Ave., Steubenville, charged with theft, obstructing official business and possession of drugs.
Cited: A Weirton woman was cited after she left the scene of an accident on Sunset Boulevard at John Scott Highway before talking to police, Sunday. The other motorist told police she was stopped at the light when her car was rear-ended and reports the driver of the other vehicle said her car wasn’t damaged and “gave (her) all of her information” before leaving. Police cited the driver who left, identified as Corrine Bull, 41, 3808 Brightway, with having expired/unlawful plates and also hit-skip.
Left: Police were told a man had “possibly fallen asleep” in the driver’s seat of a running vehicle in the 400 block of North Seventh Street, Sunday. A bartender told them patrons of the Polish Athletic Club had awakened the man before police got there and he left.
Cited: A city resident was cited after police allegedly spotted him operating a motorcycle while his driving privileges were suspended, Sunday. Police said Wiliam J. McGee, 39, 1531 Euclid Ave., was cited for driving under suspension, though he initially told them his license was valid. After checking his driving status, police confirmed he cannot legally operate a motor vehicle despite having a motorcycle endorsement. They also told him that, “just because he parked the vehicle and attempted to get off (it) before he was told to stop does not mean that the offense (they’d) witnessed did not occur.”
Served: Marlana Hart, 32, 407 N. Sixth St., Steubenville, and Thomas Tennant, 30, 1331 Oregon Ave., Steubenville, Sunday. The two were taken into custody after a traffic stop in the 900 block of Adams Street. Police said both had outstanding warrants for misdemeanor theft.

Choices: A Mingo Junction man arguing with his girlfriend asked deputies to remove her from his property, Saturday. The man said the fight started because she was intoxicated, but she said he was made because she “bought alcohol over putting gas in his car.” Both of them denied the disagreement turned physical, though the female did say he pushed her out the door and pulled her hair as he told her to leave. The male wanted her to leave for the night but deputies told him since they both lived there no one could be made to leave. Bad state: A trucker flagged a deputy down to report a male “possibly overdosed in a restroom stall” at a rest area along state Route 213, Irondale, Sept. 26. Another individual said the man “had been there for almost two hours” and that she’d tried to wake him but he didn’t respond. A deputy entered the restroom and kicked open the stall to find the man slumped over. As the door opened they said he “popped his head up (but) was not all there,” though he claimed he “only smokes weed and uses dab.” An ambulance arrived but he declined treatment as well as a courtesy ride home. He was advised not to drive himself.
Spooked: A caller reported a man wearing a gas mask in the vicinity of state Route 150, Monday. Deputies said the man was wearing a Star Wars-themed costume and told them he had been at a Halloween party and didn’t have a ride home. A deputy gave him a ride back to Steubenville.

Deputies located a male who fit the description they’d been given who said he was “just walking home” and denied looking in cars. Deputies advised him not to look into cars if he had been.
