Steubenville Police

Man assaulted: Police took a homeless man into custody after an alleged assault in the vicinity of Carnegie Street near Oregon Avenue, Wednesday. Otis Allen 48, no fixed address, was located on Franklin Avenue near Wellesley Avenue and detained while Steubenville firefighters provided first aid and then transported the victim to Trinity Medical Center West. Allen allegedly matched the description a witness gave them of the man’s assailant, police said.

Unauthorized access: A homeowner in the 2700 block of Lafayette Boulevard said a contractor working on a project in a neighbor’s backyard drove a mini-excavator through his yard, Wednesday. Police said they observed “heavy tracks … through his backyard,” and the homeowner was concerned it might have damaged pipes in his yard. The owner of the construction company told police he thought he had permission to drive through the man’s yard and had an employee on the scene who was “going to repair the visible damage to (the man’s) yard.”

Up on the roof: Police were notified a dog was “sitting on the roof” at a property in the 500 block of Lawson Avenue, Wednesday. They said the canine was still on the roof when they got there but observed the “window to be open but the screen shut.” They said the animal had torn the screen but still had access to the inside of the residence. Police said the roof was not high or steep and the dog was not in danger.

Destructive: The owner of a property in the 1400 block of Oakgrove Avenue told police her tenant had damaged the front door of the property, Wednesday. The landlady said she’d replaced the front door prior to the man moving in “and she has had to replace two sets of doorknobs due to them being broken out.” Police said the door handle was “smashed and knocked out of the door” along with “extensive damage” to the door frame and drywall just inside the door. The landlady told police she’s in the process of evicting the tenant.

Charged: Wal-Mart employees told police they stopped a woman allegedly trying to leave the store with several hundred dollars of merchandise that she hadn’t paid for, Wednesday. Police said Brittania Brown, 44, 19142 Haiti Road, Salineville, was charged with misdemeanor theft. Employees valued the merchandise in question at just over $322.

Panhandling: A University Boulevard business told police a man was “bothering customers and begging for money,” Thursday. He’d left the scene before police could get there.

Located: A man who left his iPhone 15 on a city business told police when he realized it was gone “he tracked it and observed that it was no longer on the bus,” Wednesday. He said it was pinging in Tiltonsville but authorities there told him he needed to file a report first in Steubenville.

Charged: Employees at Wal-Mart told police a woman tried to leave the store without paying for merchandise valued at nearly $179, Wednesday. Police said Selena M. Geiger, 21, 1533 Euclid Ave., Steubenville, was charged with misdemeanor theft.

Booked: Glenn Stewart, no age listed, 1417 Oregon Ave., rear apartment, warrant, Wednesday.
